Jō Shishido
was a Japanese actor recognizable for his intense, eccentric yakuza film roles. He appeared in some 300 films but is best known in the West for his performance in the cult film ''Branded to Kill'' (1967). In Japan, he is also known by the nickname for his popular role in the Western (genre), Western ''Quick Draw Joe'' (1961). Early life Joe Shishido was born in the Kita-ku, Osaka, Kita Ward of Osaka Prefecture, Osaka, Japan. He had two older brothers, one younger sister and a younger brother who also became an actor under the name Eiji Go. Shishido attended schools in Tokyo and Miyagi Prefecture, Miyagi. In 1952, he graduated from high school and enrolled in the theatre course at Nihon University. Two years later, he auditioned for the Nikkatsu, Nikkatsu Company's New Face contest. is a 1964 Japanese film based on a novel by Taijiro Tamura and directed by Seijun Suzuki. is a 1963 Japanese yakuza film directed by Seijun Suzuki. Much of the film is set in Tokyo, Japan. Synopsis Joji Mizuno ( Joe Shishido), a former Kobe Metropolitan Police Department detective fired after being convicted of embezzlement, is released from prison. During his incarceration, his partner, Detective Takeshita, died in an apparent lovers' suicide with a call girl. However, Mizuno believes that the adultery and the suicide were staged by Nomoto Enterprises, a yakuza group whose prostitution operations Takeshita was investigating. Seijun Suzuki
, born (24 May 1923 – 13 February 2017), was a Japanese filmmaker, actor, and screenwriter. His films are known for their florid visual style, absurd humour, and a playful rejection of traditional film grammar. He made 40 predominately B-movies for the Nikkatsu Company between 1956 and 1967, working most prolifically in the yakuza genre. His increasingly surreal style began to draw the ire of the studio in 1963 and culminated in his ultimate dismissal for what is now regarded as his magnum opus, '' Branded to Kill'' (1967), starring notable collaborator Joe Shishido. Suzuki successfully sued the studio for wrongful dismissal, but he was blacklisted for 10 years after that. was a Japanese film director from Saitama Prefecture. His representative works included '' Wataridori series'' starring Akira Kobayashi, ''Farewell to Southern Tosa''(1959) and ''Gazing at Love and Death''(1964). , born was a Japanese actor. Akagi appeared in over 26 films in his short three-year career. Kenju burai-chō series and The Call of the Foghorn are Akagi's notable films. In 1958, he joined the Nikkatsu company. He landed the lead role for the first time in 1959 film ''Age of Nudity'' directed by Seijun Suzuki. In 1960, Akagi won Elan d'or Award for Newcomer of the Year. Akagi was one of the box office hitter of Nikkatsu company alongside Yujiro Ishihara and Akira Kobayashi.
