Jānis Dūklavs
Jānis Dūklavs (born 24 November 1952) is a Latvian politician from the Union of Greens and Farmers political alliance. Dūklavs was Minister of Agriculture of Latvia from 2009 to 2011 and again from 2014 to 2019. Dūklavs came into disrepute during the Hotel Rīdzene leaks scandal in 2017, during which transcripts of secretly recorded talks between Aivars Lembergs, Andris Šķēle, Ainārs Šlesers and other individuals at the Hotel Rīdzene were published by the Ir magazine. Laimdota Straujuma
Laimdota Straujuma (born 24 February 1951) is a Latvian economist who was the prime minister of Latvia from January 2014 to February 2016. Before her tenure as prime minister, she served as the minister of Agriculture from 2011 to 2014. She was the first woman to serve as the head of government of the country. After her resignation on 7 December 2015, she announced her intention to resume a seat in the Saeima. Early career Between October 2000 and 2006, Straujuma served as the Secretary of State of the Ministry for Agriculture. Between 2007 and 2010, she was the Secretary of State of the Ministry for Regional Development and Local Government. She was appointed as Minister of Agriculture on 25 October 2011. ''Ir'' is an independent Latvian weekly newspaper. It was cofounded in 2010 by the former staff of Diena, after the ownership structure behind that newspaper became unverifiable. As of 2020, it had a circulation of 15,000 copies. It claims to reach a total audience of over 70,000 people. History "Ir" was founded to continue the tradition of independent journalism at Diena. Immediately after the restoration of Latvian independence, Diena was called in the New York Times "the most adamantly independent major new daily among the nations of post-Soviet Europe".
