Jørn Riel
Jørn Riel (23 July 1931 – 18 August 2023) was a Danish writer. Riel was born in Odense on 23 July 1931. He was partly known for works on Greenland as he lived there for sixteen years. One of his works was adapted to film as '' Before Tomorrow (Le Jour avant le lendemain)''. Riel died in Kuala Lumpur on 18 August 2023, at the age of 92. Odense
Odense ( , , ) is the third largest city in Denmark (after Copenhagen and Aarhus) and the largest city on the island of Funen. As of 1 January 2025, the city proper had a population of 185,480 while Odense Municipality had a population of 210,803, making it the fourth largest municipality in Denmark (behind Copenhagen, Aarhus and Aalborg municipalities). Before Tomorrow
''Before Tomorrow'' () is a 2008 Canadian drama film, directed by Marie-Hélène Cousineau and Madeline Ivalu. The film is an adaptation of the novel ''Før Morgendagen'' by Danish writer Jørn Riel. It was the third film released by Igloolik Isuma Productions, an Inuit film studio best known for the film '' Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner'', and is the first feature film to be made by Arnait Video Productions, a women's Inuit film collective. Set in a small Inuit community in the Nunavik region of northern Quebec in the 1840s, the film stars Madeline Ivalu as Ninioq, an Inuk elder isolated with her grandson Maniq (Paul-Dylan Ivalu) after most of their community perishes from smallpox transmitted by strange traders. "Their adaptation moves the setting from northeast Greenland to northwest Ungava (Nunavik) and from the 1960s to the 1840s, when explorers and whalers began to trade with local Inuit and transmitted contagious diseases." De Gyldne Laurbær
De Gyldne Laurbær (English: The Golden Laurel) (earlier: Boghandlernes Gyldne Laurbær) is a Danish literature Literary award, award, which was established in 1949. The award is handed by ''The Committee De Gyldne Laurbær'', formerly ''Boghandlerklubben'' (The Bookshops' Club). The prize is given annually in February or March. Originally the award was a laurel wreath, a golden pin with an inscription, some money and a book gift worth 2500 DKK. Today the award is a laurel wreathe, a diploma and a book gift worth 2500 Danish krone, DKK. The award is handed at a ceremony arranged by the publishing house which has published the winning book and by the Committee De Gyldne Laurbær. Grand Prize Of The Danish Academy
The Grand Prize of the Danish Academy, founded in 1961, is the most notable of Denmark's literature prizes and awards. It is awarded by the Danish Academy. Until 1982, it was handed yearly, but since then it has been given every second year. The first years the prize was 50.000 Danish krone, DKK. In 1982 the Cultural Ministry of Denmark increased the prize to 100.000 Danish krone, DKK. From 1992 to 1997 it was 200.000 Danish krone, DKK, in 1998 it was 250.000 Danish krone, DKK and since 2000 it has been 300.000 Danish krone, DKK. The term "the people" refers to the public or common mass of people of a polity. As such it is a concept of human rights law, international law as well as constitutional law, particularly used for claims of popular sovereignty.
