The Jaeger Corps also known as the Huntsmen Corps () is an elite special operations force of the Danish Armed Forces part of Special Operations Command, formerly of the Royal Danish Army, based at Aalborg Air Base. History The Jaeger Corps traces its origins to 1785 when the corps was first formed as the " Jaeger Corps of Zealand". Facing emerging threats from Sweden, Prussia, and Great Britain, Denmark created a light infantry force from hunters and woodsmen. The corps existed in various forms until it was remade in its current form in 1962 when Major P.B. Larsen and First Lieutenant Jørgen Lyng became the first two to complete the training. Throughout the Cold War, the Jaegers' primary tasking was that of a long-range reconnaissance unit, with wide renown for their skills in parachute operations. Jørgen Lyng
Jørgen Lyng (born 7 March 1934), is a retired Danish general and a former Chief of Defence (Denmark), Chief of Defence of Denmark. As a young soldier Lyng received training from Special Air Service, SAS, this training among other, enabled him to help establish and complete training for Hunter Corps, Jægerkorpset. He was made Chief of Defence in 1989, only a week before the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1990, he order HDMS Olfert Fischer (F355), HDMS Olfert Fischer to the Persian Gulf, in order to participate in the Gulf War, First Gulf War, thereby starting Denmark's more active foreign policy. This led to the creation of the Danish International Brigade in 1993 and participation in the NATO intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina, NATO led in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Operation Bøllebank became the first combat operation conducted by Danish Armed Forces since World War II. Special Operations Command (Denmark)
The Special Operations Command (; SOKOM) is a command of the Danish Armed Forces and a part of the Defence Command. SOKOM was established in 2014 to bring the Jaeger Corps () and the Frogman Corps () under one command. It is based at Aalborg Air Base. Role SOKOM was established on 1 September 2014 as part of the Danish Defence Agreement 2013-2017; Major General Jørgen Høll was appointed its first chief. SOKOM was created with the aim of "strengthening and increasing the future capabilities within special operations, including capabilities of the Air Force". On 1 July 2015, the Jaeger Corps was transferred from the Royal Danish Army and the Frogman Corps from the Royal Danish Navy to SOKOM.
