Jwaneng
Jwaneng is a town located in the Southern District of Botswana, but it is not part of this, being a separate district, with its own Town Council. History The town was formed around the Jwaneng diamond mine, considered the richest in the world in terms of its content of gem-quality diamonds. At its inception it was a 'closed town', meaning that in order to live there permission was needed from the owners of the mine, Debswana. In 2015, Jwaneng had 13,162 residents. It was identified as the second richest village in Botswana, with a poverty rate of less than 3%. Transportation The town and the mine are served by the Jwaneng Airport. Botswana Premier League
The Botswana Premier League is the highest level Association football, football league in Botswana. Organised by the Botswana Football Association, the league was formed in 1978 to replace the pre-independence Bechuanaland Union African Soccer League, which was regional. Participants in the first edition of the league included Tlokweng Pirates, Notwane, Black Peril FC, Black Peril, Queens Park Rangers (Botswana), Queens Park Rangers and a team from Ngwaketse district. The league has always been dominated by the teams that are based south of Dibete or in the southern part of the country. In the 2006–07 season, ECCO City Green, Ecco City Greens made history by becoming the first team from the north to lift the lucrative competition. Jwaneng Diamond Mine
The Jwaneng diamond mine is the richest diamond mine in the world, and also the second largest in the world. It is nicknamed "the Prince of Mines", and is located in south-central Botswana about southwest of the city of Gaborone. Jwaneng means "a place of gems", and the Jwaneng mine means "where a small stone is found" in Setswana. The mine is owned by Debswana, a joint venture between De Beers and the government of Botswana. It commenced operations in 1982. The mine owns and operates the local Jwaneng Mine Hospital, Acacia Primary School, and Jwaneng Airport. Southern is one of the districts of Botswana. The capital of Southern district is Kanye, home to the Bangwaketse and Barolong in Botswana. The Southern district is home to Botswana's second largest beef farmers where there are large privately owned ranges, and several government run beef ranges which provide agricultural support to the local farmers. Maize and sorghum, Botswana's staple crop, are also raised in the area. The Köppen climate classification divides Earth climates into five main climate groups, with each group being divided based on patterns of seasonal precipitation and temperature. A semi-arid climate, semi-desert climate, or steppe climate is a dry climate sub-type. It is located on regions that receive precipitation below potential evapotranspiration, but not as low as a desert climate.
