Junius Kaʻae
Junius Kaʻae (September 17, 1845 – December 19, 1906) was a Native Hawaiian politician of the Kingdom of Hawaii. In 1887, he was implicated in the infamous bribery scandal involving King Kalākaua over the sale of an opium license to Tong Kee. Life and career Kaʻae served many positions during the Hawaiian monarchy. He worked as a notary public and agent of labor contract for the island of Kauai, receiving his first appointment on December 13, 1877, and a later reappointment on January 13, 1879. On April 29, 1882, he was appointed by King Kalākaua as a member of the House of Nobles, the upper house of the Legislature of the Kingdom of Hawaii. He served from 1882 to 1886 until the 1887 Bayonet Constitution removed all appointed nobles and made both legislative chambers elective. Kingdom Of Hawaii
The Hawaiian Kingdom, also known as the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language, Hawaiian: [kɛ ɐwˈpuni həˈvɐjʔi]), was an Archipelagic state, archipelagic country from 1795 to 1893, which eventually encompassed all of the inhabited Hawaiian Islands. It was established in 1795 when Kamehameha I, then Aliʻi nui of Hawaii, conquered the islands of Oʻahu, Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi, and unified them under one government. In 1810, the Hawaiian Islands were fully unified when the islands of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau voluntarily joined the Hawaiian Kingdom. Chun Lung
Chun Lung (; c. 1852 – August 11, 1889) was a Chinese businessman in the Hawaiian Kingdom. He sometimes used his father's Hawaiianized surname and was known as C. L. Afong. He was also known as Alung or Ah Lung using the common Cantonese diminutive prefix Ah () before his given name. Early life Alung was born in about 1852, in the village of Kai Sheong-san, Zhuhai, Guangdong. He was the eldest son of Chun Afong and his primary '' kit-fat'' wife (), Lee Hong. His father resided in Honolulu where he became the first Chinese millionaire in Hawaii and traveled intermittently between the islands and China. Overthrow Of The Kingdom Of Hawaii
The Hawaiian Kingdom was overthrown in a ''coup d'état'' against Queen Liliʻuokalani that took place on January 17, 1893, on the island of Oahu. The coup was led by the Committee of Safety, composed of seven foreign residents (five Americans, one Scotsman, and one German) and six Hawaiian Kingdom subjects of American descent in Honolulu. The Committee prevailed upon American minister John L. Stevens to call in the US Marines to protect the national interest of the United States of America. Reform Party (Hawaii)
The Reform Party, also referred to as "the Missionary Party", or the "Down-Town Party", was a political party in the Kingdom of Hawaii. It was founded by descendants of Protestant missionaries that came to Hawaii from New England. Following the Annexation of Hawaii in 1898, and the creation of the Hawaii Territory in 1900, the party was largely supplanted by the Hawaii Republican Party. In 1902, The Reform Party ceased to exist and completely merged into the Republican Party.
