Julius Høegh-Guldberg
Julius Høgh-Guldberg (4 April 1779 – November 1861) was a Danish officer, commissioner and politician. He had a long and prominent military career until he retired in 1832 at the rank of colonel. He settled in Aarhus where he became a member of the city council. He was extensively involved in social issues and advocacy. He was awarded both the Order of the Dannebrog and the Knights of the Order of the Dannebrog before he died in 1861. Early life and family Høgh-Guldberg was born in Copenhagen in 1779 where he grew up with 6 siblings. His parents were prime minister Ove Høegh-Guldberg and his second wife Lucie Emmerentze Nørlem. Høgh-Guldberg married twice, first time in 1805 to Margrethe Pallene Hahn (1782–1835) with whom he had 8 children, the second time in 1841 to Cathrine Johanne Emilie Friis (1813–1899) with whom he had a son. Daguerreotype
Daguerreotype was the first publicly available photography, photographic process, widely used during the 1840s and 1850s. "Daguerreotype" also refers to an image created through this process. Invented by Louis Daguerre and introduced worldwide in 1839, the daguerreotype was almost completely superseded by 1856 with new, less expensive processes, such as ambrotype (collodion process), that yield more readily viewable images. There has been a revival of the daguerreotype since the late 20th century by a small number of photographers interested in making artistic use of early photographic processes. ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum
ARoS is an art museum in Aarhus, Denmark. The museum was established in 1859 and is the oldest public art museum in Denmark outside Copenhagen. On 7 April 2004, ARoS opened with exhibitions in a brand new modern building, 10 stories tall with a total floor area of 20,700 m² and designed by Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen. Today, ARoS is one of the largest art museums in Northern Europe with a total of 624.000 visitors in 2023. Apart from the large galleries with both permanent and changing exhibitions, the ARoS building features an arts shop, a dining café and a restaurant. Emmerik Høegh-Guldberg
Emmerik Lucian Høegh-Guldberg (4 May 1807 – 31 May 1881) was a Danish painter who was born in Aarhus to Julius Høegh-Guldberg, a military officer and politician, and his wife Margrethe Pallene Hahn. His half-brother was the politician Christopher Julius Høgh-Guldberg and his grandfather was Ove Høegh-Guldberg. Høegh-Guldberg was awarded the Order of the Dannebrog in 1853 and was made a Knight of the Dannebrog in 1874. ARoS Art Museum contains one painting of Emmerik Høegh-Guldberg painted by his friend Christen Købke. Education Emmerik Høegh-Guldberg was the child of Julius Høegh-Guldberg and Margrethe Pallene Hahn who lived in Aarhus. Emmerik was originally supposed to have a military career like his father and he became a military cadet in 1819 to 1826. However, in 1828 he went to Copenhagen where he was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Christen Købke
Christen Schiellerup Købke (26 May 1810 – 7 February 1848) was a Danish painter, and one of the best-known artists from the Golden Age of Danish Painting. Childhood and early training He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was one of 11 children born to Peter Berend Købke (1771–1843) and Cecilie Margrethe Petersen (1778–1867). In 1815 the family moved to Kastellet, a military fortification area in Copenhagen, where his father was head baker. At the age of 11 he suffered from a bout of rheumatic fever. He made many drawings during his convalescence and decided that he would become an artist. In 1822 at 12 years of age he started his studies at Royal Danish Academy of Art (''Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi'').
