Julian Prégardien
Julian Prégardien (born 12 July 1984) is a German lyric tenor in opera and concert. He is regarded as a leading interpreter of the role of the Evangelist (Bach), Evangelist in Passions (Bach), Bach's Passions. Life and career Julian Prégardien was born on 12 July 1984 in Frankfurt into a musical family: his grandfather and his father, tenor Christoph Prégardien, were founding members of the Limburger Domsingknaben, and the soprano Julia Kleiter is his cousin. Education Prégardien grew up in Limburg an der Lahn, Limburg and began his musical training as a member of the Limburger Domsingknaben, the boys' choir at the Limburg Cathedral. He sang in several vocal ensembles including the Collegium Vocale Gent and the Kammerchor Stuttgart already before studying at the Musikhochschule Freiburg from 2005 to 2009 with Reginaldo Pinheiro. The Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding (Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding) at the Prinzregententheater in Munich, was founded by August Everding in 1993. (German for ''The Dead City''), Opus number, Op. 12, is an opera in three acts by Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897–1957) set to a libretto by Paul Schott, a collective pseudonym for the composer and his father, Julius Korngold. It premiered in 1920. It is based on the 1892 novel ''Bruges-la-Morte'' by Georges Rodenbach. Origins Rodenbach's 1892 Symbolism (movement), symbolist catholic cult novel had already been adapted by the author into a play. The play was translated into German by Siegfried Trebitsch under the title (''The Silent City''), which he later changed to (''The Mirage''). Trebitsch was a friend of Korngold's father, Julius. ''The Tales of Hoffmann'' (French: ) is an by Jacques Offenbach. The French libretto was written by Jules Barbier, based on three short stories by E. T. A. Hoffmann, who is the protagonist of the story. It was Offenbach's final work; he died in October 1880, four months before the premiere. Composition history and sources Offenbach saw a play, , written by Barbier and Michel Carré and produced at the Odéon Theatre in Paris in 1851. After returning from America in 1876, Offenbach learned that Barbier had adapted the play, which Hector Salomon had now set to music at the Opéra. Salomon handed the project to Offenbach. Work proceeded slowly, interrupted by the composition of profitable lighter works. Offenbach had a premonition, like Antonia, the heroine of Act 2, that he would die prior to its completion.
