Judith Suminwa
Judith Suminwa Tuluka (born 19 October 1967) is a Congolese politician who is serving as prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 12 June 2024. She was nominated for the position by President Félix Tshisekedi on 1 April 2024, the first woman in the post, and took office following the investiture of her government by the National Assembly. Early life and education Suminwa hails from Kimpese in Kongo Central. Her father was formerly the Zairean ambassador to Chad. Suminwa obtained a master's degree in applied economics at the Université libre de Bruxelles and a diploma of additional studies in Work in developing countries. Career She worked in the banking sector before joining United Nations agencies including the United Nations Development Programme where she was a national expert in a community support project in the east of the country. The Constitution of the Third Republic grants the prime minister a significant amount of power. The post is currently occupied by Judith Suminwa who succeeded Sama Lukonde on 12 June 2024. She is the first woman prime minister of the country. History The position of prime minister was already present in the first post-independence government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the first prime minister being Patrice Emery Lumumba. Zaire, officially the Republic of Zaire, was the name of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 1971 to 18 May 1997.
