Juan Padrón
Juan Manuel Padrón Blanco (January 29, 1947 – March 24, 2020) was a Cuban animation director and comics artist, best known as the creator of the comic strip '' Elpidio Valdés''. He was born in Matanzas. From 1963 he published sketches and cartoons for Cuban magazines and newspapers. He was the creator, in 1970, of Elpidio Valdés, a cartoon character (and series) with more than sixty shorts and two feature-length movies. Padrón received international attention for '' Vampires in Havana'', an adult-oriented comedy feature that gathered a cult following abroad. Padrón directed six animated feature films in total, along with many shorts, especially those with Elpidio Valdés as the main character; and the one-minute comedy sketches for adults "Filminutos". An animation director is the director in charge of all aspects of the animation process during the production of an animated or television film, or an animated segment for a live-action film or television show. Elpidio Valdés
Elpidio Valdés is a cartoon character and comic, who starred in a number of features, shorts and strips of the same name. He was created in 1970 by cartoonist and Cuban filmmaker Juan Padrón, considered the father of Cuban film animation and director of the first three animated feature films produced by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry. Elpidio Valdes is a mambí colonel fighting for the liberation of their homeland from Spanish colonialism, commanding a squadron of cavalry, and represents the Cuban peasants in the 19th century Army of liberation. ''Vampires in Havana'' (Spanish: ''¡Vampiros en La Habana!'') is a 1985 Spanish-language adult animated comedy horror film directed by Juan Padrón and features trumpet performances by Arturo Sandoval. It is an international co-production of Cuba, Spain and West Germany. The film is set in Havana during the 1930s. A local musician and aspiring terrorist in Cuba is unaware of his actual nature as a day walking vampire.
