João Pedro Ferreira (born 20 October 1986) is a Portuguese former athlete who competed primarily in the 400 metres hurdles. He represented his country in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2011 World Championships without qualifying for the final. 100 Metres
The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983. On an outdoor 400-metre running track, the 100 m is held on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. There are three instructions given to the runners immediately before and at the beginning of the race: "on your marks", "set", and the firing of the starter's pistol. The Men's 4 × 100 metres relay event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on 4 September 2011. The winning margin was 1.16 seconds which as of 2024 remains the only time the men's 4 x 100 metres relay has been won by more than a second at these championships. 2010 European Athletics Championships – Men's 4 × 100 Metres Relay
The men's 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2010 European Athletics Championships was held at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on 31 July and 1 August. Shortly after heat 2, it seemed that three teams (France, Poland and Switzerland) would qualify from heat 1, and five teams (Germany, Italy, Portugal, Russia and Spain) from heat 2, including Italy that finished second. However, it was announced that Italian team was disqualified, and subsequently Finnish team qualified from heat 1 to final. Later on, Italy made successful protest against Russia, so that Russia was disqualified and Italy proceeded to final.
