João Armando Gonçalves
João Armando Pereira Gonçalves, ComIH of Figueira da Foz, Portugal (born 19 September 1963) is the former chairperson of the World Scout Committee, the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. He was a member of the European Scout Committee for a period of six years, elected in 2004 and again in 2007, and was elected to the World Scout Committee at the 39th World Scout Conference in Brazil in January 2011. He was re-elected to the committee at the 40th World Scout Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2014. Gonçalves started in his local Scout group in 1976, and is a member of the Corpo Nacional de Escutas – Escutismo Católico Português of the Federação Escotista de Portugal. He participated in the 1995 World Jamboree in the Netherlands, took office in the National Team of the CNE in 2000 as the national commissioner of the Rover branch (Caminheiros), and served as director of the first Roverway, held in Portugal in 2003. Figueira da Foz (), officially Figueira da Foz City (), often called simply Figueira for short, is a city and a municipality in the Coimbra District, in Portugal. The 18th World Scout Jamboree (Dutch: ''18e Wereldjamboree'') was held from 1 to 11 August 1995, and was hosted by the Netherlands on a polder near Biddinghuizen, Dronten community, Flevoland. 28,960 Scouts and staff members from 166 countries and territories participated in the event, the largest representation of countries to date, including 34 countries where Scouting was being born or reborn. Craig Turpie
Craig Turpie of Stirling, Scotland, served as chairman of the World Scout Committee, the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 2017 to 2021. Since then, Craig has served as the Deputy UK Chief Commissioner for Transformation. In 2022, he was awarded the Bronze Wolf Award for his contributions to world scouting. Scouting in the UK Craig Turpie first got involved in Scouting by joining his local Cub Scout Pack, 1st Stirlingshire Scouts, in 1983 and followed the youth programme through, achieving both his Queen's Scout Award and Explorer Belt. Simon Hang-bock Rhee (; born October 28, 1954) is a South Korean former chairman of the World Scout Committee, the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and Chairman of its Management Subcommittee. He was first elected as a member and vice-chairman of the Committee in Seoul, Korea in 2008, and elected as chairman at the 39th World Scout Conference in Brazil in 2011 for a three-year term. The Silver World Award is a distinguished service award of Scouting America. It is presented for noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth on an international basis. The Bronze Wolf Award is an award presented by the World Organization of the Scout Movement for outstanding service by an individual to the Scout Movement. Just over 400 people have received the Bronze Wolf since its creation in 1935. WOSM has restricted the number of recipients during the award’s history in order to maintain its significance. Currently, the award is limited to approximately one recipient for every two million members worldwide. The award itself consists of a bronze wolf pendant hung on a dark green ribbon bordered by two narrow stripes of yellow. History WOSM first considered an international Scouting award in 1924. The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest and, after the Order of World Scouts (formed in 1911), is the second-oldest international organization in the Scout Movement, having been established in 1922. It has 176 members. These members are national scout organizations that founded WOSM or have subsequently been recognised by WOSM, which collectively have around 43 million participants.
