Joy, Texas
Joy is an unincorporated community in southern Clay County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 100 in 2000. It is located within the Wichita Falls metropolitan area. History North of the settlement, Joy Creek flows through the Joy oilfield. When a group of pioneers from Fannin County founded Joy in the early 1880s, it was known as Fanninton, Fannintown, or Fannin Town. A Methodist church was founded in 1881. Gainesville was the supply hub for the early settlers. The Red River Cattle Company fenced a sizable area after becoming interested in the surrounding grasslands. Fence-cutting was first a municipal problem before the state government criminalized it in 1884. Joy was the new name given to the village when a post office opened there in 1895 and remained in operation until the 1930s. Irven DeVore
Irven DeVore (October 7, 1934 – September 23, 2014) was an anthropologist and evolutionary biologist, and Curator of Primatology at Harvard University's Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. Jacksboro is a city in Jack County, Texas, in the United States. Its population was 4,184 at the 2020 census. U.S. Highways 281 and 380, and Texas State Highways 114 and 199 intersect at Jacksboro, which is the county seat of Jack County. Bowie, Texas
Bowie ( ) is a town in Montague County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,448 at the 2020 census. History On July 22, 1881, Bowie was incorporated as a town in Montague County, United States. (A separate Bowie County includes Texarkana in northeastern Texas.) The town began to expand with the arrival of the Fort Worth and Denver Railway in 1882. In 1884, four men robbed the First National Bank of Bowie and allegedly left with over $10,000 in gold coins.
