José Vicente Féliz
José Vicente Tomás Féliz y Esquer ( 1741 – 1822) was a Spanish soldier and settler who was a member of the 1775–76 Anza expedition that brought the first settlers to California. In 1781, he was one of four soldiers which guarded the settlers which founded the settlement of El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles (the Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels), which would become Los Angeles. He took on a leadership role in the founding and governance of that pueblo, in essence becoming the city's first mayor, and was rewarded for his efforts with a Spanish land grant in the hills above Los Angeles, in the area of what today still bears his name: Los Feliz. Pedro Font
Pedro Font (Pere Font in Catalan, his native language) (1737–1781) was a Spanish Franciscan missionary and diarist. Biography Font was born in 1737 in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. He received his training at Querétaro Missionary College. From 1773 to 1775, Font served at Mission San José de Tumacácori in Pima Country. He was the chaplain of Juan Bautista de Anza's expedition that explored Alta California from 1775 to 1776. Font's diary, ''With Anza to California'', gives the principal account of the expedition; in it, Font describes military governor Fernando Rivera y Moncada using force against a neophyte. Font was involved in Rivera's excommunication. Rancho de Los Feliz was a Spanish land concession in present-day Los Angeles County, California purportedly given in 1795 by Spanish Governor Pedro Fages to José Vicente Feliz, although there is no deed or other record.. Felipe De Neve
Felipe de Neve y Padilla (1724 – 3 November 1784) was a Spanish soldier who served as the 4th Governor of the Californias, from 1775 to 1782. Neve is one of the founders of Los Angeles and was instrumental in the foundation of San Jose and Santa Barbara. Biography Early life Born in Bailén, Spain, Neve was the son of Mary D. Padilla y Costilla and Felipe de Neve Noguera Castro y Figueroa and was born into one of the well-respected families of Andalucia. Neve entered the military in 1744 at about 16 years of age.
