José Reis (politician)
José Maria dos Reis Costa is an East Timorese politician, and a member of the Fretilin political party. From June 2020 to July 2023, he was the more junior of East Timor's two Deputy Prime Minister of East Timor, Deputy Prime Ministers,The Constitution of Timor-Leste provides, in sections 104 and 105, for the appointment of officials referred to in its English language version as "Deputy Ministers". In other English language publications, those officials are commonly referred to as "Vice Ministers", even though the word "Vice", in context, arguably has a different meaning in English from the word "Deputy". Jill Jolliffe
Jill Jolliffe (7 February 1945 – 2 December 2022) was an Australian journalist and author who reported on East Timor since 1975. She was the author of ''Finding Santana'' and ''Balibo''. Education and career Educated at Geelong High School and Monash University, she visited East Timor with a student delegation in April 1975 while doing postgraduate work at the Australian National University. She witnessed the first incursions of Indonesian regular troops into East Timor in September 1975, and reported on the deaths of the Balibo Five the following month. She published her first book with University of Queensland Press in 1978, titled ''East Timor: Nationalism and Colonialism'', which was written during her Young Writers Fellowship from the Literature Board of the Australia Council. Tasitolu
Tasitolu (, or , ) is a protected area on the coast of Timor-Leste, west of the capital Dili. The Tasitolu wetlands include three saline lakes, an esplanade, and a beach; it has been designated a Wetland of National Significance. Tasitolu Peace Park was designated in 2002 because of its cultural and historical importance. The Tasitolu Important Bird Area accommodates several near-threatened species. A 2004 reforestation project, which included community member participation, was funded by the national government. Subsequent to the 2006 East Timorese crisis, several hundred people sought refuge at Tasitolu's tent camp, established by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Pope John Paul II (born Karol Józef Wojtyła; 18 May 19202 April 2005) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 16 October 1978 until Death and funeral of Pope John Paul II, his death in 2005.
