José Pereira (baseball)
José Pereira (June 8, 1927 – May 20, 2001) was a Puerto Rican pitcher in the Negro leagues. A native of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Pereira played for the Baltimore Elite Giants in 1947. Fajardo, Puerto Rico
Fajardo () is a town and a municipality part of the San Juan-Caguas-Fajardo Combined Statistical Area in Puerto Rico. Fajardo is the hub of much of the recreational boating in Puerto Rico and a popular launching port to Culebra, Vieques, and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. It is also home to the largest marina in the Caribbean, called Puerto del Rey. The town contains various hotels and inns. Offshore, near Fajardo, a few islets can be found. Toa Alta () is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico located in the northern coast of the island, north of Naranjito; south of Dorado and Toa Baja; east of Vega Alta and Corozal; and west of Bayamón. Baltimore Elite Giants
The Baltimore Elite Giants were a professional baseball team that played in the Negro leagues from to . The team was established by Thomas T. Wilson, in Nashville, Tennessee as the semi-pro Nashville Standard Giants on March 26, 1920. The team was renamed the Elite Giants in , and moved to Baltimore, Maryland in , where the team remained for the duration of their existence. The team and its fans pronounced the word "Elite" as "ee-light".
