José Manuel Ramos Barroso
José Manuel Ramos Barroso (14 February 1928 – 20 August 1996) was a Puerto Rican politician who served as a Senator. He was a member of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1977 to 1980. Biography José Manuel Ramos Barroso was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico on 14 February 1928, to Jesús Ramos and Carmen D. Barroso. He studied his elementary and high school at the Colegio Santa Rosa in Bayamón, from 1933 to 1945. Served in the United States Army during the Korean War era. From 1945 to 1948, he completed a Bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary's University and in 1951, received his Juris Doctor from Georgetown Law School in Washington, D.C. Ramos worked as a private lawyer for 25 years. In the 1970s, he entered politics and was elected to the Senate of Puerto Rico for the District of Bayamón at the 1976 elections. Puerto Rico National Cemetery
Puerto Rico National Cemetery is a United States national cemetery located in the city of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Bayamón, in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. It encompasses of land, and at the end of 2005, had 44,722 interments. Until 2021, it was the only United States National Cemetery in Puerto Rico. A second United States National Cemetery was built in Morovis, Puerto Rico because the cemetery in Bayamón has reached its capacity. History The land in which the cemetery is located was under the jurisdiction of the United States Navy since 1898, when Spain ceded Puerto Rico to the United States as a consequence of the treaties signed which officially ended the Puerto Rican Campaign, Spanish–American War. The area was used as a machine gun firing range during World War II. The Government of the United States decided that the site, which is located in Bayamon and is approximately 13 miles from San Juan, would be suitable for the construction of a new cemetery.
