José Luis Álvarez (politician)
José Luis Álvarez y Álvarez (4 April 1930 – 23 August 2023) was a Spanish politician. He was the city of Madrid's mayor from 3 March 1978 to 5 January 1979. He then worked with Adolfo Suárez and Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo as Minister of Transport and Communications from 1980 to 1981. He also was the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food between 1981 and 1982. He was born in Madrid. Cape Palos
Cape Palos () is a cape in the Spanish municipality of Cartagena, in the region of Murcia. It is part of a small range of volcanic mounts that form a small peninsula. The Mediterranean islands of Grosa and the group known as the Hormigas Islands are part of this range, as well as the islands in the Mar Menor (“Little Sea”). The name is derived from the Latin word , meaning ‘lagoon’, a reference to the Mar Menor. According to Pliny the Elder and Rufus Festus Avienus, there was once a temple dedicated to Baal Hammon on the promontory of the cape, which later became associated with the cult of Saturn. During the reign of Philip II of Spain, a watchtower was built on the promontory as a defense measure against the Barbary Pirates. Adolfo Suárez González, 1st Duke of Suárez (; 25 September 1932 – 23 March 2014) was a Spanish lawyer and politician. Suárez was Spain's first democratically elected Prime Minister of Spain, prime minister since the Second Spanish Republic and a key figure in Spanish transition to democracy, the country's transition to democracy after Francoist Spain, the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. Leopoldo Ramón Pedro Calvo-Sotelo y Bustelo, 1st Marquess of Ría de Ribadeo (; 14 April 1926 – 3 May 2008), usually known as Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, was Prime Minister of Spain between 1981 and 1982. Early life and career Calvo-Sotelo was born into a prominent political family in Madrid on 14 April 1926 with his father, Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo, and his mother, Mercedes Bustelo Márquez. The assassination of his uncle, José Calvo Sotelo, who had been finance minister under Miguel Primo de Rivera, was a key event leading up to the Spanish Civil War. Calvo-Sotelo graduated as a civil engineer from the School of Civil Engineers of Madrid now part of the Technical University of Madrid, working in the area of applications of chemistry to the industry.
