José Huerta
José Huerta (15 June 1948 – 24 June 2019) was a Peruvian politician who served as Minister of Defence from 2 April 2018 until his death. Biography He was a graduate of the Chorrillos Military School, where he held the first position in the Artillery weapons. He studied Antiaircraft Artillery in the Soviet Union and participated in courses of Command and Staff, Superior Intelligence, Development and National Defense in the Center for Higher National Studies (CAEN). He had a Master's degree in Defense and National Development from CAEN and Planning and Administration of Resources for Defense, at the National Defense University - Washington, D.C. He was a visiting professor at the School of the Americas (1988 -1989). He has been an aide to the President of the Republic of Peru (1984-1985). The Union of South American Nations (USAN), sometimes also referred to as the South American Union, abbreviated in Spanish as UNASUR and in Portuguese as UNASUL, is an intergovernmental regional organization. It was set up by Hugo Chavez to counteract the influence of the United States in the region. The UNASUR Constitutive Treaty was signed on 23 May 2008, at the Third Summit of Heads of State, held in Brasília, Brazil. The Council of South American Defense (, , ) is a mechanism that aims to promote the exchange of safety among the countries that make up the Union of South American Nations, such as military exchanges, experiences in peacekeeping missions, military exercises, confidence-building measures, and mutual and co-ordinated assistance in areas of natural disasters. The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), formerly the School of the Americas, is a United States Department of Defense school located at Fort Benning (briefly known as Fort Moore) in Columbus, Georgia, the school being renamed in the 2001 National Defense Authorization Act.
