José Gómez (cyclist)
José Gómez Lucas (9 January 1944 – 14 June 2014) was a Spanish cyclist. He competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics, finishing 15th overall in the individual road race and 12th overall with the Spanish team in the team time trial. As a professional, Gómez was the overall general classification winner of the 1970 Vuelta a Andalucía, the 1971 Tour de Menorca and the 1972 Klasika Primavera. He retired from racing after the 1975 Vuelta a España. The Volta a Catalunya (; en, Tour of Catalonia, es, Vuelta a Cataluña, link=no) is a road bicycle race held annually in Catalonia, Spain. It is one of three World Tour stage races in Spain, together with the Vuelta a España and the Tour of the Basque Country. The race has had several different calendar dates, running before in September, June and May. Since 2010 it has been on the calendar in late March as part of the UCI World Tour. Raced over seven days, it covers the autonomous community of Catalonia in Northeast Spain and contains one or more stages in the mountain region of the Pyrenees. The general classification (or the GC) in road bicycle racing is the category that tracks overall times for riders in multi- stage races.
