José de la Cruz Sánchez (November 8, 1799 – 1878) was a Californio statesman and ranchero who served as the eleventh Alcalde of San Francisco. Life José de la Cruz Sánchez was born on November 8, 1799, in Santa Clara, California, Santa Clara, California. He was the eldest son of Ana Josefa Soto and José Antonio Sánchez (1773–1843), a land grantee of Rancho Buri Buri (also called Sánchez Rancho) in present-day San Mateo County, California, San Mateo County. Rancho Buri Buri extended between the north line of South San Francisco and the middle of Burlingame, and from the San Francisco Bay to the top of the Peninsula ridge and included present-day Lomita Park, Millbrae, South San Francisco, San Bruno, and the northern part of Burlingame. General José María de la Cruz Prieto (Concepcion, Chile, Concepción, March 25, 1799 – November 23, 1875) was a Chilean soldier. The son of Luis de la Cruz (politician), Luis de la Cruz and of Josefa Prieto Sotomayor, and was a cousin of future presidents José Joaquín Prieto and Manuel Bulnes. He joined the Army on October 27, 1811, and participated actively in the battles of Battle of Chacabuco, Chacabuco, Battle of Maipu, Maipu and Pangal during the Chilean War of Independence. He married Josefa Zañartu Trujillo, and had a single daughter: Delfina de la Cruz, Delfina de la Cruz Zañartu who in turn was the wife of future president Aníbal Pinto. During the War of the Confederation, he was the under-commandant-in-chief of the Restoration Army, under General Manuel Bulnes, having special participation in the victory of Battle of Yungay, Yungay. José de la Cruz Mena (3 May 187422 September 1907) was a Nicaraguan composer. When he was twenty-one years old he contracted leprosy, but continued to compose until his death twelve years later. Mena is considered to have been one of the most prominent Nicaraguan composers of his time and one of the most important composers from that country. Biography Mena was born in León, Nicaragua, on 3 May 1874, to a family which included a number of musicians. He attended the ''Escuela Nacional de Música'' in Managua as a child, and played trumpet in bands in the city, composing several famous waltzes. He fell ill with leprosy when he was twenty-one years old, but was not sent to the nation's leper colony after writing three items of music that he dedicated to José Santos Zelaya, the President of Nicaragua. José de La Cruz Benitez Santa Cruz (born 3 May 1952 in Asunción), is a former football player who played as a goalkeeper. Benítez started in the youth divisions of Olimpia Asunción and made his debut with the first team squad in 1971. In 1977, he was transferred to Internacional of Brazil where he won several titles and became a favorite among the fans. In a friendly match on 4 December 1983, Benítez suffered a severe injury after colliding with another player during a game which forced Benítez to end his football career. He made 94 appearances in the Campeonato Brasileiro for Internacional and Palmeiras. Benítez made an appearance for the Paraguay national football team in a 1978 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Brazil.
