José Chiachiri Municipal Historical Museum
The José Chiachiri Municipal Historical Museum ( Portuguese: ''Museu Histórico Municipal José Chiachiri'') is a cultural equipment subordinated to the Sports, Art and Culture Foundation (FEAC) of the city of Franca, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Created in 1957 by initiative of journalist José Chiachiri, the museum is the institution responsible for guarding, preserving and promoting the historical heritage of the city and surrounding region. It is situated in the old Public Jail of Franca, a building in eclectic style, projected by the French architect Victor Dubugras, inaugurated in 1896 and listed as a heritage site by Condephaat in 1997.Comissão de Patrimônio Cultural da USP, 2000, pp. 383. Franca
Franca is a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The city is located in the northeastern portion of the state, distant 401 km (249 mi) from the state capital São Paulo, and 676 km (420 mi) from Brasilia. Victor Dubugras
Victor Dubugras (Sarthe, 1868 - Teresópolis, 1933) was a French architect who grew up in Argentina and settled in Brazil. Dubugras is considered by many one of the precursors of modern architecture in Latin America, where he achieved prestige for designing major works, such as the re-urbanization of ''Ladeira da Memória'' (English language, English: Memory Hill) in 1921 and the Landings and Monuments of Paranapiacaba Mountain, between 1921 and 1922, dedicated to the celebrations of Brazil's Centennial of Independence. Dubugras was recognized for teaching the architecture class at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (Poli-USP) and for participating in the Society of Architects and the Engineering Institute of São Paulo.
