José Calado
José António Calado da Silva (born 1 March 1974), known as Calado, is a Portuguese former footballer who played as a central midfielder. After coming to prominence in his home country with Benfica, he spent the rest of his 19-year professional career with two teams in Spain and two in Cyprus. He amassed Primeira Liga totals of 184 games and seven goals over eight seasons. Club career Calado was born in Lisbon. He started his career with local Casa Pia AC, representing C.F. Estrela da Amadora and S.L. Benfica afterwards and reaching international status with the latter club. In the summer of 2001, Calado signed for La Liga side Real Betis alongside his teammate João Tomás, but both failed to settle, with the midfielder only totalling 22 competitive matches in two seasons. The Taça de Portugal (; ) is an annual association football competition and the premier knockout tournament in Portuguese football. For sponsorship reasons, it has been known as Taça de Portugal Generali Tranquilidade since the 2024–25 season. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. The 2008–09 Cypriot First Division was the seventy season of top-tier football on Cyprus. It started on 30 August 2008 and ended on 10 May 2009. The defending champions were Anorthosis. APOEL won the championship three matchweeks before the end of the season. This year, for the second time, the championship also featured a group stage play-off system.
