José Bonifácio Esporte Clube, usually known simply as José Bonifácio, is a currently inactive Brazilian football club from José Bonifácio, São Paulo state. History Founded on 1 February 1961, José Bonifácio only disputed their first official tournament in 1972. In their debut year, the club was crowned champions of Campeonato Paulista Série A3 after defeating Pirassununguense in the final. After only playing in the lower levels of Campeonato Paulista, José Bonifácio until 1998, when the club opted not to play in any official competition. The club only returned in 2005, but was again licensed in 2008. Stadium José Bonifácio play their home games at Estádio Municipal Antônio Pereira Braga, nicknamed ''Pereirão'', ''Zebão'' or ''Toca da Serpente'' (Snake's Lair). José Bonifácio is a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The population is of 37,366 inhabitants and the area is 859.94 km2. The city belongs to the Microregion of São José do Rio Preto. History The history of José Bonifácio begins in 1906. The founder of the city, José Crescencio de Souza, built the first three houses. In 1910, the brothers Manuel, Justino e Carlos Rodrigues de Sant’Anna donated part of their land to the Catholic Church. The first chapel was built in 1913, and the town received the name of ''Cerradão''. In 1914, the town was elevated to district and on December 23, 1924, became a district of Mirassol, changing its name to the current form. Campeonato Paulista Série A3 is the third tier of the professional state football league in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. It is run by the São Paulo State Football Federation (FPF). The tournament has been known as Série A3 since the 1993–94 season. Structure The current format of the Paulistão A3 was introduced in 2018, after the number of teams was decreased from 20 to 16. Two teams are promoted to Série A2, and the bottom two teams are relegated to Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão. First stage Each of the 16 competitors play each other once in the first stage of the competition, for a total of 15 matches between mid-January and early-April. A win earns three points and a draw earns one point. The Brazilian Football Confederation (, CBF) is the governing body of football in Brazil. It was founded on Monday, 8 June 1914, as , and renamed Confederação Brasileira de Desportos in 1916. The football confederation, as known today, separated from other sports associations on 24 September 1979. The CBF has its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. The confederation owns a training center, named Granja Comary, located in Teresópolis.
