Borders José Azueta Municipality is delimited to the north by Tlacotalpan Municipality and Amatitlán Municipality to the east by Isla Municipality, to the south by Playa Vicente Municipality, to the west by Chacaltianguis Municipality, Cosamaloapan Municipality and Oaxaca State.
