José Antonio Torres Martinó
José Antonio Torres Martinó (1916 – 22 April 2011) was a Puerto Rican painter, artist, journalist and writer. Martinó founded or expanded many of Puerto Rico's major media, artistic and journalism organizations. He was known for abstract paintings, some of which are on display in the collection of the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico. Early years Torres was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1916. The teenaged Torres moved to New York City in 1934, to study at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Financial problems forced him to leave Pratt before completing his degree, and he returned to Puerto Rico. Journalist Torres began working as a radio journalist upon his return to Puerto Rico from New York. He co-founded Puerto Rico's first magazine focusing on radio journalism when he was 22 years old. Parque del Tricentenario is a passive urban park in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. The park was built to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city. It was inaugurated during the mayoral administration of mayor Rafael Cordero Santiago. Location The park is a passive urban family park. It is located in Barrio Tercero at the entrance to the Ponce Historic Zone on Miguel Pou Boulevard, at the southern terminus of PR-1. Features The park is a three-plaza park. Lorenzo Homar Gelabert (September 10, 1913 – February 16, 2004) was a Puerto Rican printmaker, painter, and calligrapher whose artwork stretches to three main workshops: (CPA), DIVEDCO (), and the of the (ICP). Homar was also the designer of the logo of the ( Institute of Puerto Rican Culture). Early years Lorenzo Homar was born in 1913 in Barrio Puerta de Tierra in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His father, Lorenzo Homar Sr., was a film promoter and his mother, Margarita Gelabert, a pianist. Although he attended grammar school in San Juan, in 1928 due to financial difficulties, his family is forced to move to New York City. Because of the financial situation of his family, Homar did not finish his high school education and went to work in a textile factory.
