Joseph-Élie Thibaudeau
Joseph-Élie Thibaudeau (September 2, 1822 – January 5, 1878) was a Quebec businessman and political figure. He was born at Cap-Santé, Lower Canada in 1822 and became a merchant there. He was also justice of the peace and a captain in the militia. Thibaudeau was elected to represent Portneuf in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada in 1854 and 1857. He was president of the Executive Council and minister of agriculture in 1858. In 1863, he was named registrar for Portneuf County and served in that post until his death at Cap-Santé in 1878. His brother Isidore Isidore ( ; also spelled Isador, Isadore and Isidor) is a masculine given name. Lower Canada
The Province of Lower Canada () was a British colonization of the Americas, British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence established in 1791 and abolished in 1841. It covered the southern portion of the current Province of Quebec and the Labrador region of the current Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (until the Labrador region was transferred to Newfoundland in 1809). Lower Canada consisted of part of the former colony of Canada (New France), Canada of New France, conquered by Great Britain in the Seven Years' War ending in 1763 (also called the French and Indian War in the United States). Legislative Assembly Of The Province Of Canada
The Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada was the lower house of the Parliament of the Province of Canada. The Province of Canada consisted of the former province of Lower Canada, then known as Canada East (now Quebec), and Upper Canada, then known as Canada West (now Ontario). It was created by the Act of Union 1840. Canada East and Canada West each elected 42 members to the assembly for the first four parliaments. In 1853, following the 1851 Canadian census, the number of seats in the assembly was increased by the 4th Parliament of the Province of Canada from 84 to 130, 65 for each section, even though Canada West had a slightly larger population. Portneuf County, Quebec
Portneuf County (, ) is a historic county in Quebec, Canada west of Quebec City on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada. The county seat was Cap-Santé. Previously named Hampshire County (after Hampshire, England) formed in 1792 at the end of the French Regime from the former Montreal District and as a constituent riding for the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada before being renamed Portneuf County by a law of the province of Lower Canada (9 George IV ch. LXXII) in 1829. It was bounded on the west by Champlain County on the northeast by Quebec County, and on the south by Lotbiniere County. Portneuf County consisted of six former seigneuries. Isidore Thibaudeau
Isidore Thibaudeau (September 30, 1819 – August 18, 1893) was a Quebec businessman and political figure. He represented Quebec East in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal from 1874 to 1877. He was born Pierre-Isidore Thibaudeau in Pointe-aux-Trembles, Lower Canada in 1819; his father was a merchant of Acadian origin. He worked as a clerk in the Quebec City branch of a firm based in Montreal. In 1847, he became a partner in the branch and, in 1856, a partner in the Montreal operation. Thibaudeau brought his brothers and later his son into the company. He helped establish two banks, the Caisse d’Épargnes de Notre-Dame de Québec and the Banque Nationale, serving as president of the latter from 1879 to 1889. In 1863, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada for Quebec-Centre. In the same year, he was named president of the Executive Council, serving until 1864. Joseph-Rosaire Thibaudeau
Joseph-Rosaire Thibaudeau (October 1, 1837 – June 16, 1909) was a Quebec businessman and political figure. He was a Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal member of the Senate of Canada for Rigaud division from 1878 to 1909. He was born at Cap-Santé, Quebec, Cap-Santé, Lower Canada in 1837. Thibaudeau operated the Montreal branch of his older brother Isidore Thibaudeau, Isidore's company until 1895. In 1890, he was named sheriff for the city of Montreal. He was also president of the electric company and vice-president of the telephone company. Thibaudeau was a member of the first Board of directors, Bell Telephone Company of Canada (Bell Canada) in 1880, the Ontario and Quebec Railway in July 1881, and Northern Electric and Manufacturing Company Limited (Nortel).
