Josef Dobrovský Monument
Josef Dobrovský Monument () is an outdoor monument commemorating Josef Dobrovský, installed at Kampa Park in Malá Strana, Prague, Czech Republic. It consists of a large base and a Bust (sculpture), bust, which was designed by Tomáš Seidan in 1890. The monument was first revealed in Vrchlického sady near Praha hlavní nádraží, Prague main train station. After World War II, it was moved to the Kampa Park, next to Werichova vila, which is a house, where Dobrovský spent his pension. Tomáš Seidan
Tomáš Seidan (6 September 1830, in Prague – 4 December 1890, in Prague) was a Czech sculptor and art teacher. Biography He was one of nine children born to Antonín Seidan, an engraver in Prague's Old Town (Prague), Old Town. He began studying sculpture with the brothers, Josef Max, Josef and Emanuel Max. From 1843 to 1845, he was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, where his primary teacher was the Genre art, genre painter, Christian Ruben. This was during a period when there were a series of educational reforms, favoring Realism (arts), Realism over Academicism. After 1849, he worked as a porcelain modeler in . In 1854, when the famous sculptor Václav Levý left for Rome, Seidan took over his workshop. There was, at that time, no sculpture studio at the Academy, so he gave private lessons. Josef Dobrovský
Josef Dobrovský (17 August 1753 – 6 January 1829) was a Czech philologist and historian, one of the most important figures of the Czech National Revival along with Josef Jungmann. Life and work Dobrovský was born at Balassagyarmat, Nógrád County, in the Kingdom of Hungary, when his father Jakub Doubravský (1701, Solnice – 1764, Horšovský Týn) was temporarily stationed as a soldier there. His mother was Magdalena Dobrovská (1733, Čáslav – 1797). He received his first education in the German school at Horšovský Týn, made his first acquaintance with the Czech language and soon made himself fluent in it at the Německý Brod gymnasium, and then studied for some time under the Jesuits at Klatovy.
