Jorge L. Márquez Pérez
Jorge Luis Márquez Pérez (born April 13, 1960) is a Puerto Rican politician and the former mayor of Maunabo. Márquez is affiliated with the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and served as mayor from 2001 to 2021. Maunabo () is a Maunabo barrio-pueblo, town and Municipalities of Puerto Rico, municipality of Puerto Rico located in the Maunabo Valley on the southeastern coast, northeast of Patillas, Puerto Rico, Patillas and south of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, Yabucoa. Maunabo is spread over eight barrios and Maunabo barrio-pueblo, Maunabo Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The current mayor of the town is Ángel Omar Lafuente Amaro and the population in 2020 was 10,589. History Maunabo was founded in 1799. Maunabo derives its name from a Taíno, Taino name ''Manatuabón'' for the Maunabo River. Life in Maunabo was difficult for early settlers.
