Jorge Castañeda Y Álvarez De La Rosa
Jorge Castañeda y Álvarez de la Rosa (1 October 1921 – 11 December 1997) was a Mexican diplomat. He served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs from April 1979 to 30 November 1982, during the administration of José López Portillo. His son, Jorge Castañeda Gutman, was foreign secretary from 2000 to 2003. Born in Mexico City, Castañeda y Álvarez studied law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he also later lectured. He was a leading Latin American international lawyer. He taught at the Colegio de México and the Escuela Libre de Derecho and served as ambassador to France, Egypt and the United Nations. The secretary of foreign affairs () is the foreign secretary of Mexico, responsible for implementing the country's foreign policy. The secretary is appointed by the president of Mexico to head the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs () and is a member of the federal executive cabinet. Escuela Libre De Derecho
Escuela Libre de Derecho (ELD) is a private law school in Mexico City, Mexico. Founded in 1912, it is one of the oldest law schools in Mexico and the oldest private institution focused in teaching law. Since its establishment in 1912, the Escuela has had as its only mission the teaching of law, breeding from the principles of academic freedom, outside of any form of religiosity, or political ideology. It has graduated many notable alumni, including two Mexican presidents, ten justices of the Mexican Supreme Court as well as notable politicians, notary publics, litigators and transactional law practitioners.
