Jon Bentley (computer Scientist)
Jon Louis Bentley (born February 20, 1953) is an American computer scientist who is known for his contributions to computer programming, algorithms and data structure research. __NOTOC__ Education Bentley received a B.S. in mathematical sciences from Stanford University in 1974. Brian Reid (computer Scientist)
Brian Keith Reid (born 1949) is an American computer scientist. He developed an early use of a markup language in his 1980 doctoral dissertation. His other principal interest has been computer networking and the development of the Internet. Education Reid received his B.S. in physics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1970, and then worked in industry for five years before entering graduate school at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy, PhD in computer science in 1980. His dissertation research developed the Scribe (markup language), Scribe word processing system, for which he received the Association for Computing Machinery's Grace Murray Hopper Award in 1982. Quicksort
Quicksort is an efficient, general-purpose sorting algorithm. Quicksort was developed by British computer scientist Tony Hoare in 1959 and published in 1961. It is still a commonly used algorithm for sorting. Overall, it is slightly faster than merge sort and heapsort for randomized data, particularly on larger distributions. Quicksort is a divide-and-conquer algorithm. It works by selecting a "pivot" element from the array and partitioning the other elements into two sub-arrays, according to whether they are less than or greater than the pivot. For this reason, it is sometimes called partition-exchange sort. The sub-arrays are then sorted recursively.
