Jomo Cosmos is a South African association football, soccer club based in Johannesburg that plays in the SAFA Second Division, ABC Motsepe League. The club is owned and coached by South African football legend Jomo Sono. At the end of the 2021–22 National First Division season, the club was relegated to the third tier of football in South Africa for the first time. History The club was founded on 29 January 1983, upon the remnants of the previously well-known and successful club Highlands Park F.C. (1959), Highlands Park, which Sono opted to buy when he ended his playing career in the United States. Olën Park
Olën Park, also known as Profert Olën Park for sponsorship reasons, is a stadium in Potchefstroom, South Africa. It was used for rugby union matches by the Leopards (rugby team), Leopards team in the First Division of the Currie Cup as well as the Vodacom Cup. Quite often the annual inter-varsity between the North-West University and the University of the Free State is also played here. Profert Olën Park was named after Carl Ludwig Theodor Olën who was the President of the Western Transvaal Rugby Union from 1922 to 1934. The stadium can host approximately 22,000 spectators. In recent times a local fertilizer company situated in Potchefstroom, Profert has been contributing not only financially but also with their products and expertise, towards the upkeep of the playing field and as thus obtained the naming rights of the stadium. The MTN 8 is a South African soccer cup competition launched in 1972 for teams who finished in the top 8 positions of the league table of the country's preceding season of the top-flight league (currently the Premiership). The winners receive R10 million and the competition's trophy, which is one of the three domestic trophies attainable by its competitors each soccer season, with the other two being the top-flight league title and the country's premier knock-out competition, the Nedbank Cup. Manuel Bucuane
Manuel José Luís Bucuane (born 16 August 1973), better known professionally as Tico-Tico, is a former Mozambican footballer who played as a striker. In his career, Tico-Tico played primarily for Desportivo de Maputo in Mozambique and Jomo Cosmos in South Africa. Andrew Rabutla
Andrew Rabutla (born 21 November 1971) is a South African former soccer player who played at both professional and international levels as a defender. He was nicknamed "Jaws of Life" because of his tough tackling. Career Rabutla played his club football in South Africa and Greece for D'Alberton Callies, Rabali Blackpool, Jomo Cosmos and PAOK. His European career end early after a serious knee injury. Rabutla played with PAOK only one official game for 1997–98 UEFA Cup. Due to his injury his released from PAOK at the middle of the season. The National Soccer League (NSL) was a South African association football, soccer league established in 1985 as a response to boardroom disagreements in the non-racial National Professional Soccer League (South Africa), NPSL. 2010–11 National First Division
2010–11 National First Division, was the season from September 2010 until May 2011, of South Africa's second tier of professional football. The overall NFD champion was promoted to the first level, known as Premier Soccer League (PSL). While the losing team of the championship final, faced a round robin playoff stage, against the second lowest ranked team of PSL and the two second ranked teams of the NFD streams. Season structure The league is made up of 16 teams, split into 2 streams. Each team plays the other 7 teams in their stream 3 times, for a total of 21 games. Teams receive 3 points for a win, 1 for draw, and 0 for a loss. At the end of the season, the top ranked team from each stream play in a two-legged final, the winner of which is crowned National First Division Champion, and gains automatic promotion to the Premier Soccer League for the next season.
