Jolly's (department Store)
Jolly & Son was a small department store chain based in Kent and the West Country. Jolly's historic flagship store in Bath had been part of the House of Fraser group since 1971. Following the stores closure in February 2025, it was announced that it would be reopened in 2026 by Morleys Stores. Early history James Jolly set up a linen drapery store in Deal, Kent during the 1810s. The business thrived, and by 1823 he opened a seasonal store in Bath for his son Thomas. The shop was a success and by 1830 became a permanent shop. The business quickly expanded and by 1852 Jolly & Son had branches in Deal, Margate, Bath, Bristol. The business sold amongst others linen, toys, silk and cutlery. However in 1889, the Bristol store was sold off. In addition to the shops, Jollys had an extensive mail order business. Morleys Stores is a group of eight department stores in Greater London, a business-to-business furniture supply subsidiary called Morley's of Bicester Ltd and a department store & furniture centre called Camp Hopson of Newbury in Newbury, Berkshire, Newbury, Berkshire. Margate is a seaside resort, seaside town in the Thanet District of Kent, England. Milsom Street, Bath
Milsom Street in Bath, Somerset, England, was built in 1762 by Thomas Lightholder. The buildings were originally grand townhouses, but most are now used as shops, offices and banks. Most have three storeys with mansard roofs and Corinthian columns. Numbers 2 to 22 are Grade II listed. The bank at number 24 was built by Wilson and Willcox and includes baroque detail not seen on the other buildings. Numbers 25 to 36 continue the architectural theme from numbers 2 to 22. Badminton is a racquet sport played using racket (sports equipment), racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net (device), net. E Dingle & Co was a department store chain with its flagship store in Plymouth, England. It is now part of House of Fraser group. Early history Edward Dingle opened a drapery shop at 30 Bedford Street, Plymouth in 1880. By the next year the business had expanded and had over 27 employees. One of his staff, Tom Baker, became his brother-in-law when he married Edward's sister, and he was duly made a partner in the business. By 1900, the store had expanded to include 29-31 Bedford Street and 6 Cornwall Street.
