John Wood (11 November 19091 March 1965)National Archives of Australia, Service Record, Signalman John Wood, NX6581 was an Australian who acted on the stage and briefly became a film star in Hollywood and Britain in the late 1930s. Early acting career Wood was born in Forbes, New South Wales and attended Sydney Church of England Grammar School. After briefly venturing into operating a banana plantation he turned to acting. He performed on stage for the J. C. Williamson Company in Australia between 1929 and 1933, earning good reviews as a "talented juvenile" and handsome young actor "with promise." Russell Reading Braddon (25 January 1921 – 20 March 1995) was an Australian writer of novels, biographies and TV scripts. His chronicle of his four years as a prisoner of war, '' The Naked Island'', sold more than a million copies. Braddon was born on 25 January 1921 in North Sydney, New South Wales. He was the son of Thelma Doris (née Reading) and Henry Russell Braddon. His father, a barrister, was the grandson of Tasmanian premier Edward Braddon. Braddon enlisted in the Australian Army during World War II, serving in the Malayan campaign. He was held as a prisoner of war by the Japanese in Pudu and Changi prisons and on the Thailand-Burma Railway between 1942 and 1945. During this time he met Ronald Searle, whose Changi sketches illustrate ''The Naked Island''. After the war, he went on to study law at University of Sydney. John Lamin Wood (5 July 1930 – 6 August 2011) was an English actor known for his Shakespearean performances and his lasting association with Tom Stoppard. In 1976, he received a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his performance in Stoppard's ''Travesties''. ''Stolen Face'' is a 1952 British film directed by Terence Fisher and starring Paul Henreid, Lizabeth Scott and André Morell. The screenplay was by Martin Berkeley and Richard Landau based on a story by Alexander Paal and Steven Vas. Jimmy Sangster was assistant director and Phil Leakey handled Makeup. Lead actors Henreid and Scott both were experiencing downturns in their careers and welcomed the chance to work in this film. It also featured Andre Morell's first work for Hammer.
