John Warne Herbert, Jr.
John Warne Herbert Jr. (August 3, 1853 – August 26, 1934) was an American lawyer who was a member of the Rutgers team in the first ever college football game. He was the chairman of the State Highway Commission of New Jersey and mayor of Helmetta, New Jersey. Early life and education Herbert was born on August 3, 1853, in Wickatunk, New Jersey. He is the son of John Warne Herbert Sr. and Agnes D. Runyon Herbert. John Warne Herbert Jr. went to the Old Brick Reformed Church Schoolhouse in Marlboro, New Jersey and the Glenwood Institute in Matawan, New Jersey. Rutgers He enrolled at Rutgers University in the scientific department, then known as Rutgers College in 1869 and graduated with an Bachelor's of Science degree in 1872. The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) is a constituent school of Rutgers University's New Brunswick-Piscataway campus. New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District
New Jersey's 3rd congressional district is a suburban district in southern and central New Jersey. Centrally located on the I-95 corridor in the Northeast Megalopolis, at the cross-roads between the Delaware Valley region in the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area and the Raritan Valley region within the larger New York metropolitan area, the district includes large swaths of Burlington County, and portions of Mercer and Monmouth Counties. Garret Augustus Hobart (June 3, 1844 – November 21, 1899) was an American businessman and politician who was the 24th vice president of the United States, serving from 1897 until his death in 1899, under President William McKinley. The 1896 Republican National Convention was held in a temporary structure south of the St. Louis City Hall in St. Louis, Missouri, from June 16 to June 18, 1896. George Washington Helme (May 18, 1822 – June 16, 1893) was the founder of Helmetta, New Jersey. Early life and family Helme, born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, USA, was the ninth child and fifth son of Major Oliver Helme (descendant of an old Rhode Island family begun by Christopher Helme) by his second wife Sarah Pease Fish. As a young man George Helme obtained a clerkship with Asa Packer, a wealthy contractor involved in the construction of locks, boats, and railroads for the transport of coal (and who eventually founded Lehigh University). In his mid-twenties, Helme resigned his position with Mr. Packer and moved to Louisiana, where his older brother Samuel was living.
