John Slater (industrialist)
John Slater (December 25, 1776 – May 27, 1843) was an early American industrialist, founder of Slatersville, Rhode Island and younger brother of Samuel Slater, father of the American Industrial Revolution, and a member of the well-known Slater family. Biography Slater was born in England in 1776 and received an education from Thomas Jackson, also his older brother's teacher, and then became a millwright's apprentice. Slater gained technical mill information in Manchester and Oldham, England to use in America. Slater immigrated in the United States in 1803 to work for Almy, Brown and Slater at Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Pawtucket. He eventually formed a partnership with the Providence firm of Almy and Brown, purchased land in what is now Slatersville, Rhode Island (then was the northern wilderness of Smithfield, Rhode Island) and began construction of a textile mill. Royal Doulton
Royal Doulton is an English ceramic and home accessories manufacturer that was founded in 1815. Operating originally in Vauxhall, London, and later moving to Lambeth, in 1882 it opened a factory in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, in the centre of English pottery. From the start, the backbone of the business was a wide range of utilitarian wares, mostly stonewares, including storage jars, tankards and the like, and later extending to drain pipes, lavatories, water filters, electrical porcelain and other technical ceramics. John Slater (British Politician)
John Slater (6 April 1889 – 15 February 1935) was an English Conservative Party politician. Sporting career Reared in the Lancashire coal district, as a footballer Slater first lined out with Adlington White Star before signing for Bolton Wanderers aged 16. A full back, he was a member of the Trotters side which captured the Second Division title for the 1908-09 season and went on to play in the top flight for a number of years before joining South Liverpool in 1914. In 1921, he became majority shareholder in Stoke City and his investment helped the club win promotion to the First Division, but a series of relegations followed. In 1926 facing mounting financial losses, Slater agreed to dispose of his interest in the club after the failure of a proposed merger between Stoke City and Port Vale. John Slater (Canadian Politician)
John Kelvin Slater (January 25, 1952 – May 10, 2015) was a Canadian politician, who was elected as a BC Liberal Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in the 2009 provincial election, representing the riding of Boundary-Similkameen. On January 14, 2013, Slater quit the BC Liberals after losing the nomination as the party's candidate in the 2013 election. Although he did plan to run as an independent, he withdrew his candidacy shortly afterward. Prior to his election to the legislature, he was mayor of Osoyoos Osoyoos (, ) is the southernmost town in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia between Penticton and Omak. John Slater (22 August 1916 – 9 January 1975) was an English character actor who usually portrayed lugubrious, amiable cockney types. Biography Slater's father was an antiques dealer. After attending St Clement Danes Grammar School in Hammersmith, Slater began acting in farce at the Whitehall Theatre. He first appeared on film in 1938, remaining active in the industry up to his death.
