John Quayle (born 21 December 1938) is an English actor who had roles in many sitcoms including ''All Gas and Gaiters'', ''Terry and June'', '' Steptoe and Son'' and ''The Liver Birds''. TV career The younger brother of actress Anna Quayle, his first main TV role was that of Jim Hawkins in the 1951 BBC serialisation of ''Treasure Island'' alongside Bernard Miles as Long John Silver. He also appeared in a 1952 episode of ''Billy Bunter'' of '' Greyfriars School''. His roles in the 1960s included appearances in '' The Power Game'' and ''No Hiding Place''. John Quayle, (1725–1797) was a Manx lawyer who became the Clerk of the Rolls in the Isle of Man. Biography John Quayle was born in the Isle of Man in 1725, the son of John Quayle and Elizabeth (née Harrison). He married Margaret Moore, daughter of Sir George Moore in 1750: the marriage produced eight children. Part of a Manx legal dynasty, Quayle became Clerk of the Rolls in 1755 following the death of his father. His duties including the keeping of the public records of the Island, and taking evidence in special cases heard before the Manx Chancery Court. John Quayle (December 1, 1868 – November 27, 1930) was an American businessman and politician from Brooklyn, New York. He was most notable for his service as a U.S. Congressman representing the 7th District of New York in the United States House of Representatives for four terms, serving from 1923 to 1930. Early life John Francis Quayle was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 1, 1868. He attended local schools, St. James Academy, and Brooklyn's St. Francis College. Start of career Quayle operated a retail butcher business, and later became involved in the construction industry as a homebuilder. He became active in politics as a Democratic, most notably as a member of Brooklyn's Third Ward Democratic Club. In 1914 Quayle was appointed Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue for New York's first district, and he served until 1919. John Quayle (born 14 February 1947) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s, and administrator in the 1980s and 1990s. An Australia national and New South Wales state representative lock or second-row forward, he played in the NSWRFL Premiership for the Eastern Suburbs and Parramatta clubs. Following his retirement Quayle became the NSWRL's first General Manager and later the ARL's chief executive officer. Playing Quayle began playing football in country New South Wales with Manilla's rugby league club as a boy, playing all his junior football with the local club. He rose through the ranks of all grades and joined Sydney's Eastern Suburbs team in 1968. At the end of the 1972 NSWRFL season he played for Easts as a second-row forward in their grand final loss to Manly-Warringah.
