John O'Donoghue (hurler)
John O'Donoghue (born 1942) is an Irish former hurler, Gaelic footballer and coach. At club level he played with Arravale Rovers, and also lined out at inter-county level with various Tipperary teams. Playing career O'Donoghue first played Gaelic games as a student at the Abbey CBS in Tipperary. He was part of the school team that won the Harty Cup in 1959. O'Donoghue later lined out with University College Cork and won consecutive Fitzgibbon Cups and a Cork SHC medal in 1963. At club level, O'Donoghue had a lengthy careeras a dual player with Arravale Rovers. After winning a Tipperary MFC title in 1959, he later claimed West Tipperary SHC and SFC titles with the club's senior team. O'Donoghue first appeared on the inter-county scene with Tipperary during a two-year tenure as a dual player at minor level. Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. Tipperary Senior Hurling Team
The Tipperary county hurling team represents Tipperary in hurling and is governed by Tipperary GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. West Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The West Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Tipperary Co-Op West Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the West Tipperary Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1930 for senior hurling teams in West Tipperary, Ireland. The championship has always been played using a knock-out format. The West Tipperary Championship was, until recent times, an integral part of the wider Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship. 1963 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1963 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 75th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place at the Cork Convention on 27 January 1963. The championship began on 7 April 1963 and ended on 29 September 1963. Glen Rovers were the defending champions, however, they were defeated by University College Cork in the first round. On 29 September 1963, University College Cork won the championship following a 4-17 to 5-6 defeat of Blackrock in the final. This was their first championship title. In some team sports, a selector is a member of a selection panel which chooses teams or individuals to represent a country or club or other representative team in sporting competitions. For example, a selector in cricket is an administrative position involved in choosing players to represent a particular team in a match. Theo English
Thomas English (5 July 1930 – 10 January 2021), known as Theo English, was an Irish hurler and coach. As a player, he was noted as a tactician with "good ball control and excellent stickwork". English was, at the time of his retirement, the longest-serving midfielder the Tipperary senior hurling team ever had, and has been described as "one of Tipprarys finest hurlers". In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Tipperary senior hurling team rose to become one of the most dominant teams in the sport. English, having won an All-Ireland Junior Championship with Tipperary in 1953, was immediately drafted onto the senior team as a left wing-forward but was later transferred to midfield. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling).
