John Mantle (rugby)
John Mantle (13 March 1942 – 18 November 2018) was a Welsh dual-code international rugby player. He was capped for Wales at rugby union, and Great Britain and Wales in rugby league. Personal Education He attended Bedwellty Grammar School, and later Loughborough College. Rugby Union career Mantle began his rugby career at a young age, playing for the Wales School team. As an adult he played with Bargoed before switching to first class team Newport. International While representing Newport, Mantle was selected for his two Welsh rugby union caps. His first was when he was selected as part of the touring Wales team to Africa. Mantle played in the early games of the tour, including wins over East Africa in Nairobi, and Boland at Wellington. His first international was against South Africa in Durban in 1964, but Wales were outclassed and lost 24–3 in a one-sided match. Cardiff Blue Dragons
Cardiff City Blue Dragons were a rugby league team formed in 1981. Their home ground was initially Ninian Park, which was also used by Cardiff City F.C. The club spent three seasons in Cardiff before relocating to Bridgend in 1984 as the Bridgend Blue Dragons, and were finally wound up in 1986. The team colours were royal blue shirts with a yellow and white vee. The shorts and socks were also blue. In 2014, two Rugby League clubs in the city, Cardiff Demons and Cardiff Spartans, merged as Cardiff City Blue Dragons RLFC and the name was revived and a new club formed, with a modernised badge and kit paying homage to the original side. The 1st and 2nd open age sides played senior home matches at Cardiff Arms Park during the 2015 Welsh Conference season. 1976 World Club Challenge
The 1976 World Club Challenge was an unofficial trial of what would later become the World Club Challenge concept, with the 1975 NSWRFL season's premiers, Eastern Suburbs hosting the 1975–76 Northern Rugby Football League season's Premiership and Challenge Cup winners St. Helens. The one-off challenge match was played on 29 June, right in the middle of the 1976 NSWRFL season, at the Sydney Cricket Ground before a crowd of 26,856. The next game of its kind would not be played until 1987. Background The game was the first of its type, and was the last to be played in Australia until 1994. Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club, known as the Sydney Roosters are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs (Sydney), Eastern Suburbs. The club competes in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition. The Roosters have won fifteen New South Wales Rugby League premiership, New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) and National Rugby League titles, and several other competitions. 1975 NSWRFL Season
The 1975 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the 68th season of Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, Australia's first. Twelve teams, including six of 1908's foundation clubs and another six from across Sydney competed for the J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in a grand final match for the WD & HO Wills Cup between the Eastern Suburbs and St. George clubs. NSWRFL teams also competed for the 1975 Amco Cup. Season summary The season saw the introduction of differential penalties for scrum offences. East Africa Rugby Union Team
Established in 1950, the East Africa rugby union team is a multi-national rugby union team drawing players from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania; however, the vast majority of these came from Kenya, which has traditionally been the strongest rugby playing nation in the region. The team has played against incoming international, representative and club touring sides and it conducted seven tours between 1954 and 1982. Though East Africa do play under the ''Tuskers'' nickname, it is used exclusively when they are on tour; for all matches played at home they are referred to as ''East Africa''.
