John Lavington Bonython
Sir John Lavington Bonython (10 September 1875 – 6 November 1960) was a prominent public figure in Adelaide, known for his work in journalism, business and politics. In association with his father, he became involved in the management of newspapers including ''The Advertiser (Adelaide), The Advertiser''; he also served as editor of ''The Saturday Express'' and as a journalist. After ''The Advertiser'' was sold in 1929 and converted to a public company, he became a director, and for a time vice-chairman; an association that continued until his death. In 1901 he began a long association with the Adelaide City Council, serving as List of mayors and lord mayors of Adelaide, Mayor of Adelaide (1911–1913) and later as Lord Mayor of Adelaide (1927–1930). Cooper Basin
The Cooper Basin is a Permian-Triassic sedimentary geological basin in Australia. The intracratonic rift basin is located mainly in the southwestern part of Queensland and extends into northeastern South Australia. It is named after the Cooper Creek which is an ephemeral river that runs into Lake Eyre. For most of its extent, it is overlain by the Eromanga Basin. It covers 130,000 km2. The surface of the Cooper Basin is mostly desert, including parts of the Simpson Desert, the Channel Country and Sturt Stony Desert. Oil and gas exploration of the basin began in 1962. Port Bonython
Port Bonython is the location of a deepwater port, gas fractionation plant and diesel storage facility west of Point Lowly in the Upper Spencer Gulf region of South Australia. It lies 16 km east-northeast of Whyalla, South Australia and approximately 370 km north-west of the State's capital city, Adelaide. The existing wharf is 2.4 kilometres long and is capable of berthing small Capesize ships with a maximum capacity of 110,000 tonnes. The wharf was established in 1982 and named after John Langdon Bonython (1905–1992), John Bonython, the founding chairman of Santos Limited, Santos. Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System
The Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System is a natural gas pipeline delivering gas from the Cooper Basin gas wells near Moomba, South Australia, Moomba to Adelaide, with spur pipelines to Angaston, South Australia, Angaston and Whyalla. It can also receive gas from Southeastern Queensland through the QSN Link pipeline owned by APA Group (Australia), APA Group. The pipeline was developed by the Government of South Australia and commenced operation on 28 November 1969. It was privatised in 1995 and bought by Queensland Investment Corporation, the parent company of Epic Energy in April 2013. The pipeline system now consists of a total of of high pressure gas pipelines, including of laterals.
