John Farrell (manager)
John Edward Farrell (born August 4, 1962) is an American former baseball pitcher, coach, and manager in Major League Baseball (MLB). During his eight-season playing career, Farrell was a member of the Cleveland Indians, California Angels, and Detroit Tigers. He was the pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox from 2007 to 2010, before serving as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays from 2011 to 2012. He returned to the Red Sox as their manager in 2013, winning the World Series with them in his first year, and led the team until 2017. Since 2018, he has held a scouting position with the Cincinnati Reds. Playing career Amateur Farrell grew up in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey, and was a star pitcher for Shore Regional High School. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (10 or 11January 18156June 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 until his death in 1891. John Farrell Easmon
John Farrell Easmon, MRCS, LM, LKQCP, MD, CMO (30 June 1856 – 9 June 1900), was a prominent Sierra Leonean Creole medical doctor in the British Gold Coast who served as Chief Medical Officer during the 1890s. Easmon was the only West African to be promoted to Chief Medical Officer and he served in this role with distinction during the last decade of the 19th century. Easmon was a botanist and a noted expert on the study and treatment of tropical diseases. In 1884, he wrote a pamphlet entitled ''The Nature and Treatment of Blackwater Fever'', which noted for the first time the relationship between blackwater fever and malaria. Easmon coined the term "blackwater fever" in his pamphlet on the malarial disease. John Farrell (architect)
John Farrell (1868–1938) was a New Zealand architect, businessman, and politician who served as mayor of Grey Lynn from 1904–1907 and as the Auckland Education Board architect from 1907–1924. Farrell partnered with his son, Raymond Leslie Farrell, before partnering with William Henry Glover as ''J. Farrell, Son & Glover''. Several of Farrell's buildings have heritage registrations. Early life John Farrell was born in Auckland in 1868. He and his family moved to Thames, New Zealand, Thames where he lived until later returning to Auckland for university. Farrell married his wife in 1892. Farrell worked as a builder and contractor before working as an architect. John Farrell (VC)
John Farrell VC (March 1826, Dublin – 31 August 1865) was a British Army soldier and Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was born in March 1826 in Dublin, Ireland. In 1843 he joined the Army, serving first with the 85th Foot and then the 17th Lancers, with whom he travelled to the Crimea in 1854. Farrell was a sergeant in the 17th Lancers (Duke of Cambridge's Own), British Army during the Crimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC: After serving in the Indian Mutiny in 1858 and achieving the rank of Quartermaster-Sergeant, Farrell transferred to the 2nd Light Cavalry, Indian Army. He was serving with that unit at Secunderabad India when on 31 August 1865 he died from a liver abscess. He is buried in Secunderabad Cemetery. His VC is not publicly owned. John Patrick Farrell (22 May 1968 – 3 November 2010) was an American poet and composer. Early life J.P. Farrell was born in Glen Cove, New York and pursued study of music from an early age. He composed music and performed in numerous ensembles in Long Island. Farrell entered SUNY Fredonia School of Music in 1986 as a Music Theory and Film major. He later transferred to SUNY Geneseo to pursue music composition studies with James Willey. Upon his graduation, Farrell remained semi-active in the New York Jazz scene as a bassist; performing with pianist Hyperion Knight. J.P. Farrell was a member of the Songwriters Guild of America and the American Federation of Musicians. Literary career Farrell moved to Minneapolis in 1994 and worked with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Minnesota Opera. John Farrell (18 December 1851 – 8 January 1904) was an Australian poet and journalist. Early life Farrell was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, third son of Andrew Farrell, a chemist, and his wife Mary ''née'' Parley. His parents left Dublin, Ireland in 1847 and settled in Buenos Aires. Towards the end of 1852 Andrew Farrell went to Victoria (Australia), with his wife, and children, and engaged first in gold-digging, and then in carrying, before settling down as a farmer. John Farrell was initially educated by his parents and later at a private school. His mother died in 1862, and he had little formal education although his father encouraged his taste for reading. The boy worked on farms, and when he was 19 worked in a brewery at Bendigo, Victoria. He spent some time in Darwin, Northern Territory, gold-digging and then travelled around Australia for some time, working as a brewer again, spending time as a farmer or brewer for several years.
