John Baptist Jackson
John Baptist Jackson (1701–1780) was a British artist, a woodcut printmaker of the eighteenth century. He lived and worked in Paris and Venice. Jackson was prolific, ambitious and innovative within the medium, and produced both chiaroscuro and polychrome prints, as well as wallpaper. Jackson made prints after oil paintings rather than imitation of ink-and-wash drawings. Jackson's work was remarkable for its subtle overprinting to incorporate a wider range of colours, for which he developed new, oil-based inks. Also notable in some works is his use of heavy embossing to emphasize and highlight areas of his compositions, for which he used a rolling press of his own construction. This use of embossing may have been influenced by British contemporaries Elisha Kirkall (1681/2–1742) and Arthur Pond (1701–58).J. B. John Jackson (Pontefract MP)
Sir John Jackson (died 2 July 1637) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1624 and 1629. Jackson was the son of Sir John Jackson of Edderthorpe, Yorkshire. He subscribed at Oxford University on 23 October 1612 and was awarded BA from Magdalen Hall, Oxford on 4 July 1615. He was a student of Inner Temple in 1615 and was of Hickleton, Yorkshire. He was knighted on 19 April 1619. John Alexander Jackson (1809 – 25 May 1885) was a public servant, colonial agent in pre-Federation Australia and Treasurer of South Australia. Jackson was the son of John Serocold Jackson, a major in the 72nd Regiment. The family migrated to Sydney, New South Wales in July 1825. J.A. Jackson was employed as a draughtsman in the Surveyor-General's Department on a salary of £100. After apparently visiting England, he arrived in Launceston aboard the ''David Owen'' in June 1831. He owned two large farms, and in 1833, became the editor of John Pascoe Fawkner's ''Launceston Advertiser''. John Holmes Jackson (March 21, 1871 – December 15, 1944) was an American dentist and politician who served as the 24th and 26th List of mayors of Burlington, Vermont, Mayor of Burlington, Vermont. He represented Burlington in the Vermont House of Representatives from 1921 to 1923. Jackson was born in Montreal, Canada, and educated in Kingston, Ontario, before graduating from the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery. John James Jackson II (June 1809 – November 4, 1887) served as the 9th mayor of Tampa, Florida, U.S. Biography John James Jackson II was born in Ballybay, County Monaghan, Ireland. He immigrated to the United States with his brother in 1841. The brothers traveled to New Orleans where John worked as an Assistant City Engineer for two years. In 1843, the federal government hired Jackson to survey a large land grant in present-day Palmetto, Florida. He accepted this appointment as federal surveyor and then moved to Hillsborough County with his brother Thomas to begin work. In addition to his salary, the federal government gave Jackson a large land grant in Hillsborough County. Jackson's work also took him throughout Florida and it was on an assignment in St. Augustine that he met and married Ellen Maher in 1847 with whom he bore four children. Sir John Edward Jackson (24 June 1925 – 8 May 2002) was a British diplomat and ambassador to Cuba and Belgium. Born in London, Jackson was a scholar at Ardingly College and went on to study at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He was later commissioned in the RNVR. Demobbed in 1946 in the rank of sub-lieutenant, Jackson joined the Foreign Office the following year. In 1956 Jackson was posted to Bonn to liaise between the Allied occupying forces and the embassy. From Bonn he was posted in 1960 to be consul at Guatemala City, a politically sensitive posting given Guatemala's longstanding claim to British Honduras (now Belize).
