Johann Peter Rupert (born 1 June 1950) is a South African billionaire Businessperson, businessman, who is the eldest son of business tycoon Anton Rupert and his wife Huberte. He is the Chair (officer), chairman of the Swiss-based luxury goods company Richemont and the South Africa-based company Remgro. He has previously served as CEO of Compagnie Financiere Richemont. Rupert and family were ranked the second richest in South Africa; behind Elon Musk; on the 2025 ''Forbes'' list, with an estimated net worth of US$15.2 billion and US$17.7 billion according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The Rembrandt Group, officially known as Rembrandt Trust (Proprietary) Limited, is a South African tobacco and industrial conglomerate founded by tycoon Anton Rupert who oversaw its eventual transition to the industrial and luxury branded goods sectors. Rembrandt was split into Remgro (an investment company with financial, mining and industrial interests) and Richemont (a Swiss-based luxury goods group). Universal basic income (UBI) is a social welfare proposal in which all citizens of a given population regularly receive a minimum income in the form of an unconditional transfer payment, i.e., without a means test or need to perform Work (human activity), work. In contrast, a ''guaranteed minimum income'' is paid only to those who do not already receive an income that is enough to live on. A UBI would be received independently of any other income.
