Joe Orseno
Joseph F. Orseno (born October 4, 1955 in Philadelphia) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. He began his career as a professional trainer in 1977 and in 1997 joined Frank Stronach's racing stables. In 2000, Orseno conditioned Red Bullet, an upset winner of the Preakness Stakes. He went on to win two Breeders' Cup races that fall: the Juvenile with Macho Uno Macho Uno (foaled April 24, 1998 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse. Black Helen Handicap
The Black Helen Handicap was an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Hialeah Park Race Track in Hialeah, Florida, from 1941 through 2001. Open to fillies and mares age three and older, the Grade II event was raced on turf at a distance of a mile and an eighth (9 furlongs). The race was named for Edward R. Bradley's U.S. Racing Hall of Fame mare Black Helen. The inaugural running took place on February 8, 1941, and was won by Sweet Willow at a distance of seven furlongs. The following year the race was run at a mile and an eighth and would remain at that distance for all subsequent editions. Historical notes In 1948 the Black Helen Handicap had a Dead heat for win between Shotsilk and Rampart. Perfect Sting (foaled 1996 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred Championracehorse and broodmare. Bred by Frank Stronach's Adena Springs Farm and raced by his Stronach Stables, she was sired by Red Ransom and out of the mare Valid Victress. Macho Uno
Macho Uno (foaled April 24, 1998 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse. He was sired by the 1994 American Horse of the Year and National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee, Holy Bull. Trained by Joe Orseno, Macho Uno is best known for narrowly winning the 2000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile over future three-year-old champion Point Given and being voted the Eclipse Award as the American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt. His three-year-old campaign was delayed until July resulting in limited starts though he did capture the Pennsylvania Derby and finish a creditable fourth to Tiznow in the Breeders' Cup Classic. The Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf is a Weight for Age Thoroughbred horse race on turf for fillies and mares, three years old and up. It is held annually at a different racetrack in the United States as part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships. The race is run at either or , depending on the turf course configuration at the Breeders' Cup host track. For tracks which can accommodate either distance (Belmont, Woodbine, and Santa Anita ), it is run at miles. The 2015 edition at Keeneland was conducted at miles because that track's turf course configuration does not allow for the two regular distances to be conducted on it. Breeders' Cup
The Breeders' Cup World Championships is an annual series of Graded stakes race, Grade I Thoroughbred racing, Thoroughbred horse races, operated by Breeders' Cup Limited, a company formed in 1982. From its inception in 1984 through 2006, it was a single-day event; starting in 2007 Breeders' Cup, 2007, it expanded to two days. All sites have been in the United States, except in 1996, when the races were at the Woodbine Racetrack in Canada. In the United States, the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, commonly known as the Triple Crown, is a series of horse races for three-year-old Thoroughbreds, consisting of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. The three races were inaugurated in different years, the last being the Kentucky Derby in 1875. The Triple Crown Trophy, commissioned in 1950 but awarded to all previous winners as well as those after 1950, is awarded to a horse who wins all three races and is thereafter designated as a Triple Crown winner. Miss Woodford Stakes
The Miss Woodford Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race usually run each year in August at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey open to three-year-old fillies. An ungraded stakes currently offering a current purse of $75,000, it is a sprint race contested over a distance of six furlongs on the dirt. Added to Monmouth Park's stakes schedule in 1952, the race is named for the great racing mare Miss Woodford of the late 19th century who was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1967. It was at Monmouth in the old Monmouth Oaks that Miss Woodford ran the race that made her the highest earning racehorse of her time.
