Joe Cilia
Joseph Cilia (22 October 1937 – 5 August 2017) was a Maltese professional football player and manager. Career At the age of nineteen, in 1957, Cilia debuted on the Malta national team. He was the youngest player on the team when it played Malta's first international match against Austria. He became an automatic choice for the Malta XI, and Malta captain from 1959 to 1964. He was captain for all the other teams he played with and is now considered to be one of Malta's greatest centre-halves. With Valletta, he won all the titles on offer, to end a period dominated by Sliema Wanderers and Floriana. He played blinders against foreign teams, including Manchester United (0-1), helping Malta XI gain good results. He was the first player to twice earn Maltese Player of the Year. Msida
Msida (, ) is a harbour town in the Eastern Region, Malta, Eastern Region of Malta with a population of 7,623 (2021). Location The town is located just west of Valletta on the northeast coast of Malta. The neighbouring towns of Msida are Ta' Xbiex, Gżira, San Ġwann, Birkirkara, Santa Venera, Ħamrun and Pietà, Malta, Pietà. Msida is an important town for travellers as many bus routes pass through it. Etymology The name Msida is said to originate from an Arabic word, meaning "a fisherman's dwelling". The Maltese Player of the Year Award is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in Football in Malta, Maltese football. The award has been presented since the 1954–55 Maltese Premier League, 1954–55 season and the winner is chosen by a vote amongst the members of the players' trade union, the Professional Footballers' Association (MFA). Roberto Boninsegna
Roberto Boninsegna ( born 13 November 1943) is an Italian former professional footballer who mainly played as a forward. After retiring, he worked as a football manager. As a player, he played for the Italy national side at two World Cups, reaching the final in 1970. Club career Born at Mantua, Boninsegna started his career in Serie B (the second tier of Italian professional football) with Prato in 1963–64 season. He transferred to Potenza, who was Serie B team in 1964–65 season. He also played for Varese in 1965–66 and Cagliari between 1966 and 1969, helping the club to a second-place finish during the 1968–69 Serie A season alongside Luigi Riva. Floriana ( or ''Il-Floriana''), also known by its title Borgo Vilhena, is a fortified town in the Port Region area of Malta, just outside the capital city Valletta. It has a population of 2,205 as of March 2014. Sliema ( ) is a town located on the northeast coast of Malta in the Northern Harbour District. It is a major residential and commercial area and a centre for shopping, bars, dining, and café life. It is also the most densely populated town on the island. Lining the coastline is a promenade known as the Sliema Front that has become the ideal spot for joggers and walkers as well as a prolific meeting place for locals during the summer season. Sliema is also known for its numerous rocky beaches, water sports and hotels. The Strand in Sliema is a popular viewing spot for fireworks displays that take place in August.
