Joachim Trier
Joachim Trier () (born 1 March 1974) is a Danish-born Norwegian filmmaker. His films have been described as "Melancholia, melancholy meditations concerned with existential questions of love, ambition, memory, and identity (social science), identity." He has received numerous accolades, including the Grand Prix (Cannes Film Festival), Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival, as well as nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and two Cesar Awards. He is best known for his Oslo trilogy which comprises the films ''Reprise (film), Reprise'' (2006), ''Oslo, August 31st'' (2011), and ''The Worst Person in the World (film), The Worst Person in the World'' (2021). For the last film, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay at the 94th Academy Awards, with the film also nominated for Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, Best International Feature. Oslo Trilogy
The Oslo trilogy () consists of the Norwegian drama films ''Reprise'' (2006), '' Oslo, August 31st'' (2011) and '' The Worst Person in the World'' (2021). The three standalone films are all set in Oslo and feature the actor Anders Danielsen Lie in a leading role. They were directed by Joachim Trier who co-wrote them with Eskil Vogt. Films ''Reprise'' ''Reprise'' (2006) is about two Norwegian men in their 20s who struggle with personal relationships and burgeoning careers as novelists. Academy Award For Best Original Screenplay
The Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay is the Academy Award (also known as an Oscar) for the best screenplay not based upon previously published material. It was created in 1940 as a separate writing award from the Academy Award for Best Story. Beginning with the Oscars for 1957, the two categories were combined to honor only the screenplay. Procter (film)
''Procter'' is a 2002 British-Norwegian short film directed by Joachim Trier, starring John Joyce and Michael Hucks. It tells the story of a man who finds a video tape depicting a mysterious suicide and tries to figure out what happened. Plot Charles Procter shaves and goes to work. He spills coffee in his lap and goes home to change clothes. In the garage, he finds a car on fire with a dead man inside. Nearby is a video camera on a tripod, which Procter takes and brings home. The video depicts a man who goes through his morning routine, briefly meets a girl with a dog, pours petrol on the car and himself, steps into the car and lights himself on fire. Procter rewatches the video several times. The police turns up and asks about the incident. The dead man had lived a few floors above him. His name was Paul Ferguson. National Film & Television School
The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is a film, television and games school established in 1971 and based at Beaconsfield Studios in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England. It is featured in the 2024 ranking by ''The Hollywood Reporter'' of the top 15 international film schools. As of 2021 it had over 500 students and about fifteen hundred a year on its short courses delivered in Beaconsfield and at its hubs in Glasgow, Leeds, and Cardiff. ''The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix'' () is a 1975 Norwegian stop-motion-animated sports film directed by Ivo Caprino. It is based on characters from a series of books by Norwegian cartoonist and author Kjell Aukrust. The Other Munch
''The Other Munch'' () is a 2018 Norwegian documentary film directed by Emil and Joachim Trier. It is about the process of creating an exhibition of paintings by Edvard Munch, curated by the writer Karl Ove Knausgård. Synopsis The film follows the work with the exhibition ''Mot skogen – Knausgård om Munch'' ("To the woods – Knausgård on Munch"), held in the summer of 2017 at the Munch Museum in Oslo and curated by the writer Karl Ove Knausgård. Knausgård and the filmmaker Joachim Trier travel in the footsteps of Edvard Munch to understand his paintings better. They discuss parallels between Munch's and Knausgård's works.
