Jinshan, Taipei
Jinshan District () is a rural district on the coast in northern New Taipei, Taiwan. The district draws many visitors each year because of its hot springs and its proximity to Chin Pao San and the Ju Ming Museum. The district is home to the Dharma Drum Buddhist College, an institution of higher learning founded by Dharma Drum Mountain monastics devoted to the principles of Zen Buddhism. Name Origin This area was originally a Ketagalan settlement, called "Ki-ppare" ( Basay: Quimourije), meaning "bumper harvest". This was later adapted as ''Kimpauli'' (金包里; ), the choice of characters perhaps influenced by the discovery of golden dust in the Sulfur creeks. In 1920 during Japanese rule, the area was renamed Kanayama Village (金山庄), Kīrun District (基隆郡), Taihoku Prefecture. Districts are administrative subdivisions of Taiwan's Special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and Provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its provinces. There are two types of district in the administrative scheme: Ordinary districts are governed directly by the municipality/city government, with district administrators appointed by mayors to four-year terms. The mountain indigenous district is a local government body with elected district chiefs as well as district council serving four-year terms. Basay Language
Basay was a Formosan language spoken around modern-day Taipei in northern Taiwan by the Basay, Qauqaut, and Trobiawan peoples. Trobiawan, Linaw, and Qauqaut were other dialects (''see East Formosan languages''). Basay data is mostly available from Erin Asai's 1936 field notes, which were collected from an elderly Basay speaker in Shinshe, Taipei, as well as another one in Yilan who spoken the Trobiawan dialect (Li 1999). However, the Shinshe informant's speech was heavily influenced by Taiwanese, and the Trobiawan informant, named Ipai, had heavy Kavalan influence in her speech. Sihuangziping Pilot Geothermal Power Plant
The Sihuangziping Pilot Geothermal Power Plant () is an upcoming geothermal power plant in Jinshan District, New Taipei, Taiwan. It is the first power plant in Taiwan powered by a volcano. Yangmingshan National Park
Yangmingshan National Park is one of the nine national parks in Taiwan, located in both Taipei and New Taipei City. The districts that are partially in the park include Taipei's Beitou and Shilin Districts; and New Taipei's Wanli, Jinshan, Sanzhi and Tamsui Districts. Twin Candlestick Islets
The Twin Candlestick Islets () are islets in Jinshan District, New Taipei, Taiwan. History The islets were once part of Jinshan Cape. Due to the continuous movement of tectonics plates and coastal erosion, they separated from the island of Taiwan. Initially they were a single rock arch, but the top collapsed thus made them look like two candlesticks. Geology The islets are located 450 meters off the coast of Jinshan Cape. Ju Ming Museum
The Juming Museum () is a museum in Jinshan District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. It displays the works of Taiwanese sculptor Ju Ming. History Initially purchased the building and the surrounding wasteland area for his personal art works collection storage in 1987, Ju Ming personally designed the architecture, landscapes, wiring and plumbing of the structure. Aside from purchasing the property to build the museum, he also donated over 2,000 pieces of his own works and personal collection to the museum for the public to view. Starting from the ground up, it took him 12 years to finish the construction work and he had turned a vacant land into a sculpture park. The museum officially opened on 19 September 1999. Red-crowned Crane
The red-crowned crane (''Grus japonensis''), also called the Manchurian crane (; the Chinese character '丹' means 'red', '頂/顶' means 'crown (anatomy), crown' and '鶴/鹤' means 'crane'), is a large East Asian Crane (bird), crane among the rarest cranes in the world. In some parts of its range, it is known as a symbol of luck, longevity, and fidelity. Description Adult red-crowned cranes are named for a patch of red bare skin on the crown, which becomes brighter during the mating season. Overall, they are snow white in color with black on the wing secondaries, which can appear almost like a black tail when the birds are standing, but the real tail feathers are actually white. Wetland
A wetland is a distinct semi-aquatic ecosystem whose groundcovers are flooded or saturated in water, either permanently, for years or decades, or only seasonally.
