Jigar Moradabadi
Ali Sikandar (6 April 1890 – 9 September 1960), known by his pen name as Jigar Moradabadi, was an Indian Urdu poet and ''ghazal'' writer. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1958 for his poetry collection "Atish-e-Gul", and was the second poet (after Mohammad Iqbal) to be awarded an honorary D.Litt. by the Aligarh Muslim University. Biography He received oriental education in Arabic, Persian and Urdu in Moradabad, and started to work as a travelling salesman. Jigar moved to Gonda, near Lucknow, where he befriended Asghar Gondvi. He died on 9 September 1960 in Gonda. Legacy His Sufi poem ''Yeh Hai Maikada'' was sung by many Sufi singers like Sabri Brothers, Aziz Mian, Munni Begum & Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi. Moradabad () is an industrial city, commissionerate, and municipal corporation in Moradabad district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Nadira Begum (), better known by her pseudonym title, Munni Begum () is a Pakistani vocalist and ghazal singer. Early life Munni Begum was born Nadira Begum in Murshidabad (now in West Bengal, India) in 1946. The third child of seven children. She first started taking music lessons from the famous singer Ustad Khwaja Ghulam Mustafa Warsi. It was this music teacher who gave her this professional name due to her small size and young age. Subsequently, she studied in the school of music for three years, and thereafter, she launched her career. Her parents migrated from India to East Pakistan in the early 1950s. Rahat Indori, born as Rahat Qureshi, (1 January 1950 – 11 August 2020) was an Indian Bollywood lyricist and Urdu poet. He was also a former professor of Urdu language and a painter. Prior to this he was a pedagogist of Urdu literature at DAVV. Biography Indori was born on 1 January 1950, in Indore to Rafatullah Qureshi (a cloth mill worker), and his wife Maqbool Un Nisa Begum.
