Zhibek Zholy (, until 1990: ''Chernyaevka'', 1990–1993: ''Poltoratskoye'') is a village in Saryagash District, Turkestan Region, Kazakhstan. It lies border town, on the border with Uzbekistan, across from the Uzbek village Gʻishtkoʻprik (Tashkent District). Turkestan Region
Turkistan Region, formerly known as South Kazakhstan Region from 1992 to 2018 and Chimkent Region from 1963 to 1991, is the southernmost region of Kazakhstan, bordering Uzbekistan. It had a population of 2,088,510 as of the 2022 Kazakhstan census. The region's capital is Turkistan, formerly Shymkent until 2018. Other cities in the region include Sayram, Kentau, Arys, Shardara, Zhetisai, Saryagash, and Lenger. Geography This region and Atyrau Region are Kazakhstan's two smallest regions; both are about 117,300 square kilometers in area. Tashkent (), also known as Toshkent, is the Capital city, capital and List of cities in Uzbekistan, largest city of Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan Border
The Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan border is long and runs from the tripoint with Turkmenistan to the tripoint with Kyrgyzstan. It is Uzbekistan's longest external boundary. The Uzbek capital Tashkent is situated just from this border. Description The border begins in the west at the tripoint with Turkmenistan; it then follows the 56th meridian east for about up to the 45th parallel north. There a straight line of goes north-east, followed by another straight line section of . This latter section cuts through the Aral Sea and the former Vozrozhdeniya Island (now part of the mainland) which straddle the boundary; the sea was formerly much larger but was severely depleted by Soviet-era irrigation schemes.
