Jetset Records was a New York-based indie rock record label. Founded by Shelley Maple in 1996, the label's first release was a reissue of German punk rock band The Golden Lemons' fourth album, ''Punkrock''. The Gunga Din
The Gunga Din was an American rock band, formed in 1998 in New York City. Featuring vocalist Siobhan Duffy, guitarist/vocalist Bill Bronson, bassist Chris Pravdica, drummer Jim Sclavunos, and keyboardist Maria Zastrow, the band released two albums, ''Introducing: The Gunga Gin'' and ''Glitterati'', in 1999 and 2000, respectively. Its members came from a diverse musical background, playing in the bands such as God Is My Co-Pilot, Swans, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Described as a "New York-style art rock band," The Gunga Din combined a Farfisa organ and psychedelic music-inspired drumming. Its debut album was described as "an equal blend of post-punk and new wave" with occasional psychobilly influences and was compared to the works of the bands such as the Doors, X and Suicide. Ten Benson
Ten Benson are a rock band from London, United Kingdom formed in 1997. Their early releases saw them described as "psychedelic hillbillies",Strong, Martin C.: "The Great Alternative & Indie Discography", 1999, Canongate, but they later moved on to a (cod-) heavy metal sound. History The band was formed in 1997 by ex-Swimmer singer/guitarist Chris Teckkam, with Shiva Affect drummer Napoleon Catilo, and bassist Duncan Lovatt. Jonny Wood came in for live shows on keyboard and general crazy shenanigans etc. Three 7" singles were released in 1997 and 1998, the latter ("Evil Heat") getting considerable airplay on BBC Radio 1. These singles were compiled onto the ''6 Fingers of Benson'' mini-album on Deceptive Records. The ''United Colors of Benson'' EP followed in November 1998, these early release seeing them described as a "geeky gaggle of quirk-rock experimentalists". Teenage Fanclub
Teenage Fanclub are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in Bellshill near Glasgow in 1989. The group were founded by Norman Blake (vocals, guitar), Raymond McGinley (vocals, lead guitar) and Gerard Love (vocals, bass), all of whom shared lead vocals and songwriting duties until Love's departure in 2018. As of 2019, the band's lineup consists of Blake, McGinley, Francis Macdonald (drums, vocals), Dave McGowan (bass, vocals) and Euros Childs (keyboards, vocals). In concert, the band usually alternate among its songwriters, giving equal playing time to each one's songs. Although often pegged as alternative rock, the group have incorporated a wide variety of elements from various music styles in their songs. Teenage Fanclub have had a succession of drummers, namely Francis Macdonald, Brendan O'Hare and Paul Quinn. Keyboardist Finlay Macdonald (no relation) has also been a member. Seakeeping ability or seaworthiness is a measure of how well-suited a watercraft is to conditions when underway. A ship or boat which has good seakeeping ability is said to be very seaworthy and is able to operate effectively even in high sea states. Erik Sanko
Erik Sanko (born 27 September 1963) is a bass player from New York who has played in The Lounge Lizards and currently active in Skeleton Key. Biography In the past he also worked with notable musicians including Marc Ribot, John Cale, Yoko Ono, Suzanne Vega, Jim Carroll, Gavin Friday, They Might Be Giants, The Melvins, James Chance and the Contortions, Danny Elfman, The Kronos Quartet and members of Enon and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Besides being a musician, he's also a visual artist who creates marionettes. Erik Sanko is married and works with visual artist/set designer/director Jessica Grindstaff. His work has been reviewed in The Village Voice and The New York Times. In 2007 he, together with Jessica Grindstaff, founded Phantom Limb, a multi-media based theater company for which Erik is primarily composer and puppet maker. Sahara Hotnights
Sahara Hotnights are a Swedish rock band from Robertsfors, Sweden. Their style incorporates elements of garage rock, power pop and punk. History The band formed sometime around 1991/1992, "due to boredom". While in Australia, Josephine Forsman bet on a horse named Sahara Hotnights and used the name for the band. Around 1995, they won a "battle of the bands" contest and were awarded with a chance to record their songs in studio. Their debut EP, '' Suits Anyone Fine'', was released in 1997 to immediate success and critical acclaim in Europe. Soon afterwards, the band signed with the Swedish label Speech Records, and over the next two years released three further singles, "Face Wet", "Oh Darling!", and "Nothing Yet". Prolapse (band)
Prolapse were an English indie rock band formed in Leicester, England, originally active from to 2000. The group's sound was a mixture of punk rock, krautrock and shoegazing styles. The band's sound was also characterised by the alternating, contrasting vocal styles of Linda Steelyard and Mick Derrick. History Formation Prolapse formed in the summer of 1991 at Leicester Polytechnic's Friday night disco, "with the aim of being the most depressing band ever". Of the six members—vocalists Mick Derrick and Linda Steelyard, guitarists David Jeffreys and Patrick Marsden, bassist Mick Harrison, and drummer Tim Pattison—only Harrison and Pattison had performed together. In a 1999 interview, Steelyard stated that the name was chosen "to indicate something undesirable in a miserable sort of way, rather than unsavoury. Macha (band)
Macha was an experimental post-rock band from Athens, Georgia composed of brothers Josh McKay (founder/singer/multi-instrumentalist), Mischo McKay (drums/percussion), Kai Reidl (multi-instrumentalist) and Wes Martin (multi-instrumentalist). Macha's music combined the precision tension-and-release post-rock of Mogwai with the lush, hypnotic grind of My Bloody Valentine, along with elements of post-punk, kraut-rock and especially Indonesian Gamelan. The CMJ New Music Report opined that the band "may have invented a new genre - call it Indo-rock." They incorporated a variety of instruments into their sets: Javanese zither, Balinese bamboo flute, hammered dulcimer, Hawaiian slide guitar, talempong nipple gongs and Nepalese shawms, vibraphone, and a 1970s-era thrift-store organ called the Fun Machine.
